The FA43 is fast the DA35 is a macro, so you definitely need both

I guess I have to justify it in my mind.

I've come to the conclusion that lens kits are like toolboxes. Yes, you may have several different screwdrivers in your toolbox, but chances are, they differ in size and head (Phillips or flat head), thus you use them for different functions.

I've got the FA50/1.4 on my Christmas wish list, but if I don't get it, then I may consider getting another 43.

2nd sharpest lens I own behind FA77 at any aperture, and much sharper than my FA31 at any aperture, except in the corners below 2.8.

The best lens I have for distant/infinity. Not sure if it's the coating or lens design. My copy has a slight red tint, that is different from other Pentax lenses I own, so I assume that is the coating, anyway, seems to render distant detail better, not sure why.

Renders a bit on the dark side at f4, and even more so around f8. I have to give it a bit more + exposure comp, especially if to match other lenses.

Does the best job of any lens I own in controlling and showing detail in highlights. Very saturated colors.

I will keep this lens regardless of whatever other lens I own or will buy in the 30-60 range, even if they are close in FL, yes, they are tools, but this one is a bit unique.

Go to lens for me for artsy type shots, or infinity, or landscape (field of view permitting) or any tricky or bright or contrasty lighting.

Not my first choice for portraits (for my preference anyway) That's why I'll keep my M50 1.4 for this range at least until the DA*55 comes out

not as fast focusing as the DA40, and the DA40 will probably expose more consistently for a walk-around choice, and require less effort for pleasing portrait and skin tones.

Thanks, I was probably 12 or so feet away from the surfer, that photo is cropped to about 30% of its original size, but held up.

And about 1 foot away from the butterfly, that was just cropped because of some distracting element on the right hand side of the frame.

Many users think this lens is more useful (better FOV?) on a full frame camera than it is on a cropped APSC dSLR camera, and I'm one of them

My wife works on projects in Toronto, so we keep an apartment there, and this would be the Distillery District! Lots of brick walls for lens testing! I like your shot, didn't notice there was a signature on the other side. Last time I went there, there were lots more shoes than on this occasion.

This was in my first lens purchase (after the body kit). I think it has exemplary rendering, but I do not favour the focal length. For this reason it stays at home in favour of the FA77 and I lose out on using a fantastic lens. Then again I can now say I have good to excellent 24, 28, 35, 43, 55, 77 and 105mm lenses, plus the 16-45 zoom, so it faces a lot of competition!

No-one who needs the focal length could be disappointed by the FA43.
