About Fa 43mm ltd

Its back home again!

Today I picked up the 43 from the UPS Store.
Perfect feeling in my hands and still a beautiful lens on my camera. I showed the lens a nice old restaurant on my job tour:

There I selebraid the event with a nice glass of:

Mine came today!

I've tried a few indoor shots, but nothing worth posting right now. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out with it a little bit tomorrow during the day.

It's so nice to have a 43 back in the bag again.

I currently own an FA 35/2, a DA 40/2.8 Limited and an FA 50/1.4, and - of course -a couple of zooms that cover the same focal length range. The last - and I mean the very last - thing I need is another prime in the same range, yet I've had a hankering for an FA 43 for years - a hankering that resurfaced when my wife asked me what I want for Christmas a few days ago.

Please explain clearly to me that I'm nuts and that I ought to put the money into some beaten down stock with a low P/E and a high dividend.

The best cure for LBA is experience. Get it. Compare it to what you've got. You'll find over time you'll use something less as a result, buy/sell/trade in the marketplace for something different, its natural.

The more money you can inject into your photography gear with spousal approval, the better. Internal moves later are easier than explaining/justifying new cash, even if your other is supportive, heh.

I have a 50/1.4, super tak 35/3.5 and i still want the 40/2.8 and 43 as well. I'll get them all one of these days. You might as well!

Kelly, this is excellent advice - advice I've been giving myself since I began photography in '78. Unfortunately - I've never heeded it .

Aside from an M50/1.7 and M 80-200 - I still have every lens (all bought new) I've ever owned.

My "digital" collection: DA 10-17, DA 16-45, DA 50-200, DA 18-250, DA 21, 40 and 70, FA 35, DFA 100 Macro.

My "legacy" collection: M 20/4, M 28/3.5, K 28/2, M 50/1.4, FA 50/1.4, A* 85/1.4, M 135/3.5, cheap Tak K 135/2.5, M 200/4, K300/4. Also, A 35-70 (?), A 28-135, a two or three boom-box-silver cheapo F zooms, the focal length ranges I don't recall off hand.

While I can take solace from the fact that others have a more serious case of LBA than I do, I still need psychological counciling . . . .

But I like your answer - "Get it."

Thats a long history and lots of glass , congrats! You have also identified the flaw in the logic however - keeping everything. In the end, look at the birds in the hand and ask if the birds in the bush would make you happier. I know if I can say yes, I don't feel guilty selling something after I've had a test run with the new purchase to be sure I was right. On the other hand, if you're legitimately shooting everything you have, more power to you! Bottomline, once you eleminate the dust collection, you're neurosis is cured

I have ended up with a bucketful of 50 ish lenses. And still long for a 43mm.

Unless money is absolutely no object... (lucky you) Honestly, how often is each of the others lens on your camera? When you start to throw a few lenses in the bag to head out, how many of those come in the bag. For me it is usually two, the DA 40 because it can fit anywhere, and whichever is the fast 50ish lens of the month. (right now, the Helios-44M at 20 dollars is my LOM)

If I had it to do all over again (and I might with a christmas D90) I would get that FA43 first and the FA77 and the DA 35macro. Just the limiteds in the lengths I use and 2 constant ap Zooms to cover the 16-200 range... I bet it may even have cost me less in the end than the bucketful of glass and steel that collects too much dust now.

So as I tell my daughters... do as I say not as I do

(it does'nt work on them either)

With a collection that size, it's hard to comment on whether you need the lens but I'd just suggest that any advice on a future sale isn't all that great. If my wife bought me a lens (a tough thing for her to get as she doesn't really follow what I'm shooting with or what I might want), it would be a permanent addition that would never be sold

Of course you need psych counseling! You shoot with a Pentax. Don't you know that this camera company is:
a) going to go out of business soon. People have been saying this since 2000! It's gonna come soon man, I can just feel it! Probably the day after I hit the lotto.
b) Pentax is no good for shooting sports
c) Pentax is no good for shooting wildlife
d) Pentax has no decent telephoto lenses
e) Pentax makes girly cameras
So you are 'nuts' already. That makes it OK to get the 43! Enjoy it!
