Excellent shots Piotr. I have also got my FA31 this week, and it is a great lens. I was however not able to make so beautiful shots as yours yet...

consider getting a 58mm non-flaring hood or using some empty filter rings and then using a 58mm cap. it works a lot better for me. the built-in hood is pretty useless, especially in portrait.

btw, great to see you posting in this forum, i really liked the photos you took with the 180 in Paris
Which hood did you get?

The third image of the spider web at dawn is lovely. I love the colour and the composition of the grasses.
Have fun with the lens, someday it'll be me behind one of those when I can afford one!

Very sharp for 1.8

First of all, well done. Secondly, did you do any post processing on these shots, specifically with regard to sharpening? Your 1.8 shots are outstanding. I have this lens and a k100d Super, and after seeing these, I feel that either my copy is slightly misfocusing or since lens outresolves the sensor, I'm not seeing the full benefit of it like you are with the k20d. Please advise. Thank you.

I reckon its the match with the K20

read a review on this lens when using it with a k10... they gave it only 3 out of 5 for image quality.

Its my next lens...

Yeah, gotta side with K100 on this one - there is a reason this lens costs what it does and it translates into one of the clearest infinity shots in its focal range by any manufacturer I've used on either the K10 or 20. I'm sure you'll be happy with you choice.

FA31 pros -

- as above, in its class, its is unrivalled by anything I've owned or tried at infinity sharpness from near through distant.
- almost at peak sharpness by 2.8... effin' sweet.
- presents an even, true field and perspective and only a trace of vignette at f1.8. I guess the AL design is doing its job here. Great for interiors, architecture and landscapes. Groups shots too.
- short focus throw makes for good AF speed.
- fast, great low-light shooter. I find it a nice focal range for night time architecture or party shots.
- well built, inspires pride and confidence.

cons -

- $
- short focus throw not so hot for MF, but its better than many other native AF lenses
- 1:6.25 @ 1 foot (approx)... meh. Not really a negative, just... meh.
- will purple fringe if you entice it. Don't try showing off with this lens in this regard, its only about average in resistance to PF.

Those are great shots...all of them. If I ever only feel like taking one lens with me, it's the FA 31mm ltd. As I'm flipping through my pictures in iphoto or aperture, I can immediately tell which ones were taken with it as its just such a good lens - sharpness, color, contrast, bokeh...that lens has the best combo of them all.

Fantastic pictures. I also have the 31 with a long way to go to achieving those results, but the I'm happy to say that my results are improving as I learn.
The other day though I noticed that the wife had put our old Canon Rebel and kit lens beside our 10d with the 31ltd. Man, was that a reality check, as it sure makes one appreciate the build quality of the Pentax and the LTD's!!!!!

First step: I use PentaxPhoto Laboratory to produce jpg - standard setup.
Second step: Picasa, Fill Light and Sharpen.

I do sharpening because without that during generation of jpgs 800 wide pixels I loose to much.

When I print my photos in A4 format they are sharp enough without any sharpening .
