Hey Ben... you ever use the sigma? You never know, you might like it.

I use mine mostly for portraits:

But find that it does landscapes quite well also, and good thing, since it's on my camera most of the time.

Admittedly, you wouldn't want to shoot those landscapes wide open. But stopped down to usual landscape-shooting apertures I find the corners on mine just as sharp as anywhere else (admittedly it's slightly cropped on 4/3, but I'd be happy to buy one of these for my pentax when I get it).

I can't let this thread go by without a 31Ltd sample:-)

BTW, I will never sell mine.

PS: I've learned never say never. It would take some kind of crisis to make me sell it, nothing to do with the lens, knock on wood.

Wow, is that amount of snow normal for you there?

We've gotten this much snow in less than 3 weeks. No, not normal. In December we set a all time record for the amount in a single day and for snowfall in any single month. It's been brutal. I took this pic yesterday after another storm and after digging out....again. The blue sky was fleeting. Temps dropped to below O degrees F last night but at least I don't have to shovel today. Of course another storm is due Sunday evening and night. So I'll be digging out....again to go to work Monday morning.
Last winter we set a record for the most snowfall in a winter, 148 inches, if I remember correctly, give or take an inch or two.
Spokane, WA is 40 miles west of Cd'A (where I live). They have been in a state of emergency for awhile and the last I saw they were around 65" or so, we have to be around 80" or maybe 90". A week ago the local paper had Cd'A at 77" but we've had a lot of snow since then, it just hasn't stopped.

Yeah, I know it's Apples to Oranges, but in Canon land, it's more or less "gospel" that the 30mm is THE normal lens to shoot on a crop body, even more so than the much more expensive 35mm L -

Sigma 30 f1.4 EX DC HSM v. Canon 35 f1.4 L USM - Test 1 Photo Gallery by lightrules at pbase.com

I keep my 30mm glued to my 40D most of the time when I'm shooting people and it always wows me. I have "limited" experience with the 31mm (did a couple of shots with carpents' copy some time ago....) though.

That was a very good review, have you compiled any other reviews?

For me that is simply amazing.. I have only ever seen snow from a distance and never touched it... could not imagine waking to that

FA 31mm F1,8 limited on canon 5D MKII

Just look at what the Pentax did lol, looks like we'll have to reserve some 31mm's to keep them out of the canonite hands

Not bad competition from a zoom, interesting find. Good to see the FA still passes the 24x36 test.

Pentax SMCP-FA 31mm f/1.8 AL Limited Edition

She and I are close to meeting (just a few more days now). Didn't see much on this lens in the forums here as far as a dedicated thread.

Just about as good as they get from my understanding. What I've read says this lens is very well behaved. I chose this over the 70mm 2.4 in purchase order, have the cash so I figured I get this one first.

Anyone shoot landscapes with it here as well?

Fa 31mm ltd is a legendary lens. It is boutiquely built with a class of its own. It is full of glass and compact hand-held.

I use it a lot for landscape. It is a lens to render certain type of weather very well. Very contrasty even wide open and it is a lens to trust when you are doing a long distance hike.

The best thing about this lens is its ability to render shadow details. In photoshop, the colour could be brought out of JPEGs from k20d!!

Here are some of my Fa 31mm ltd shots over the past year.

Well it certainly seems wide enough on APS so no worries there, and sharp. Nice set of images!

Oh man, does the Australian sun (and clean air) really bump up the saturation levels of the camera or what? When we get those nice days here in Vancouver, I get the same rich blues, greens, and reds.

Great shots; wondering how much "bigger" those landscapes would look with the 12-24?

I had tried the 31 two previous times and just didn't "get" it. I decided to try a third and last time, buying in anticipation of price increases. I've had the lens on the camera this week and am totally in love. I finally am seeing it. Great for street shooting and it renders beautifully. I am finding it a bit better than the 43 for street as I can get a bit wider and closer. I love it.
