smc P-FA 31mm F1.8 Wide Angle Lens

im designing a wedding album right now and i can understand wanting to pixel peep.

for instance, i had to crop into a photo and lay it out on a two page spread for an 11x12.5 album. A two page spread in that book is 11x25 taking a crop from a photo and laying it in there....yeah, i want to peep it first.

no worries.

All the FA limiteds have this characteristic. It is sometimes noticeable even without excessive magnification. But it is easy to correct in your image editor. Since this is about the only flaw of this series, I can live with it.

It is normal. Actually not too bad at all for the 2nd crop - almost negligible.

PF is a normal with pentax lens line up. We tend to mention the "notorious" few that fringe like nightmare.

I would actually go so far as to say that a big portion of experienced PF and CA is more due to the low pass filter and sensor of the Pentax cameras than the lens itself...

While we have PF/CA issue, we also glad that SMC killed most of the flare

i would say its normal but... as for f1.8 its even to small CA, so i thing yours (Or body of yours) suffers from slight really slight BF

I'm very interested in the smc P-FA 31mm F1.8 Wide Angle Lens any comments on
using this lens on the 20d

But what is a "36 28 36"?

btw. the 31/1.8 is not really a wide-angle on the K20D due to the "crop factor"

31 ltd still has the wide angle distorsion perspective different from a 50mm lens.

Buying 31 ltd is all about the unqiue picture rendering that some of us appreciate.

Agreed with Roentarre. The 31 does have that look and renders images in ways that other lenses can't quite capture. But with the crop factor (1.5 x) you are getting about 46.5mm perspective in field of view for 35mm film.

If you are looking for a wider angle of view, then consider the DA21mm (equiv to 31.5mm) or the DA14mm (equiv to 21mm). Both very good lenses.

The 31 is a slightly long "standard" lens on the K20. the actual standard would be around 27~29mm, depending on the actual used real estate on the sensor.
WIW, on the 35mm film format, 43mm is technically the standard focal length, with the more normal 50mm lens a very slight telephoto.
But this is splitting hairs a lot thinner than is my norm.
Suffice it to say that the 31mm is not a wide angle lens if your intent is to use it on the K20. If you want a nice wide angle, the 21mm is very good indeed.
I prefer a more top heavy 38 24 36
