Sigma 28-80mm zoom

This was one of the first lenses I bought after buying my first DSLR.... and it has performed incredibly well for me over the years. Not only is it a wonderful landscape lens, but the 1:2 macro feature is amazing. I still own it and although I have several other lenses that cover the same FL, I can't imagine ever selling it. It works wonderful when paired with my little K-x travel kit.

I was just curious how many of you have this little, inexpensive jewel of a lens.... and if your opinion of it comes close to mine? This accompanying photo was taken with it hooked to a K-50 a couple of years ago.

Nice shot, Dewman. I have the Sigma 28-90 macro version, and agree it's a nice performing little lens! One of my most-frequently used walkarounds, too.

Thanks, Paul. I wished to hell I could remember how I did the PP to the sky! I've tried over and over and simply CANNOT duplicate it! I DO remember I used the "Color Filter" option as well as the "Tone Curve," .... but, try as I might, I can't achieve the same results. I have a couple of other images that this particular treatment would do wonders for, but I'm stuck!

Oh, I might mention, I use an editing program (almost exclusively) that came with a little P&S Olympus camera. Laugh if you want, but unless you've tried it.... you just can't begin to appreciate how well it works. If you're interested in giving it a try, PM me and I'll send you the serial # of my Olympus camera and you can download it for free from the Internet.

I have one of each! I bought the black 28-90 with a broken mount for $15 - I might superglue it to a K to m4/3 adapter. The silver 28-80 ($27) works fine and the mounts are identical, so with minor surgery I can choose which one to convert

I have one with a plastic lens mount - and previously had one with a metal mount, which I gave to my daughter because she's harder on equipment than me.

Great macro & overall sharpness!

I bought my mint Sigma 28-80 Macro from a member here for $15 shipped!!! I wasn't expecting much at all at that price, but was I ever wrong! It's one of my favorite lens, and I also will never sell it!

I have its identical half-cousin the Quantaray 28-90. It was one of the first lenses I bought when I bought the K-x, but I never really used it much. I bought it from TechForLess when they had a bunch of stuff from the Ritz Camera bankruptcy. I ended up with a manual focus 28-70, the 28-90 and a 2x tele-converter (the first TC they sent me was a Minolta mount in a Pentax box). I missed out on the 70-300, good thing too as I ended up buying a DA L 55-300 later on.

I have a Sigma 28-80. I haven't used it a lot but as I recall it takes pretty good images. The focus on my copy as a little gritty and feels loose but it seems to function reasonably well. My only real gripe is that the objective turns as it focuses which I really don't much like. An upside is that it is full frame compatible.
