Short end - 18-135 or 16-85 depending on whether you need long reach or wide span more. I am very happy with my 18-135 and would have missed those extra 50mm at the long end. Your needs may be different.
Long end - 55-300, HD WR edition.
If you get one of each and intend to take them both into the field, probably the 16-85 is the one to pair with the 55-300 as there's less wasted overlap.
The next step up is somewhere between definitely not cheap and fiendishly expensive (the DA* and new D-FA series). There is no doubt that the D-FA 15-30/24-70/70-200*/150-450 zoom combination is probably the best any Pentaxian can own from current OEM equipment. There is also no doubt that owning it will break the bank balance of any mere mortal.
