Vivitar 75-205 zoom

I acquired an old Vivitar 75-205mm f/3.5 zoom with close focus (or macro as they call it) and a 55mm diameter filter thread.

According to the serial number (if that is what I am reading on the front of the lens), it was made by Tokina in the 5th week of either 1974 or 1984. I can find photos of other similar Vivitars (Kirons, mostly), but they look a bit different.

Outside of that, I can't find out much about it. Does anyone know anything about this lens? I sure would appreciate any info you can share.

Thanks,

Don

Yes, you are correct. I found this page that gives the first two digits of the serial number for the for each manufacturer. But I haven't been able to find any additional information.

This refers to the lens.

It mentions that the Kiron version of the lens came in an earlier 2 ring model design and a one-touch model later.

I have a two-ring model I bought in m-42 many years ago, and used for quite a while before I got some faster and lighter primes (I still have the zoom). It is extremely sharp in close-focus mode, quite sharp @ ~75mm. and not very sharp much over that. It is also very, very heavy. Mine developed a small spot of fungus on an inner glass element when I was living on the east coast (think constant fog and rain), however this does not visibly affect IQ.
