Finally burnt

Well I knew it would happen eventually with all the used lenses I have bought sight unseen over the last few years. Until this last deal, I have had all positive transactions and have never had a doa.

I just purchased an 18-50 kit lens from a fellow and had it shipped to me. Sadly it showed up with the focus not working. Neither manual or auto focus work at all. The focus ring will turn freely by hand but nothing happens. I can't imagine it's worth the repair cost to send it in so I guess I'll be eating this one. Oh well at least it wasn't I high dollar lens.

That's disappointing. Bought using Marketplace or elsewhere?

Elsewhere. I have bought a lot on the marketplace and elsewhere all with great results.

You may be able to get some redress then.

Yeah I'll probably just leave it be. The seller would have rather done a face to face deal but I talked him into shipping it to me. He was clearly new to the whole long distance deals as I paid his cousins PayPal account because he didn't have one. Just basically venting here. Unless someone has taken one apart and could tell me what to look for to fix it

Paypal should protect you. You paid for a good lens, not for a non-working one. It might be only $10, but it is your $10.

Well it was $115 CDN so roughly $80 ish USD. There was a piece on the mount side that had fallen off so I'm assuming it was dropped on its way to me.

Make a claim. I've had PayPal pay me back no question out of their funds. Whatever went on later does not concern me.

It's not like you paid $300k for a Bentley and it had a scratch. It's an $80 thing and is useless.

Saying this I am a valued customer with thousands of buys over a couple decades with only a couple complaints.

If you are not an obvious scammer ( and you are not) PayPal will probably refund you.

I just tried mine and even when camera is switched to manual focus I hear the motor. I couldn't seem to get focus to move with camera turned off. Somehow you are not getting power to the motor.

Claim.

Seller's problem, not yours.

He should then claim from the company that shipped the lens.

Neither party should lose.

I can hear the motor working when I try to focus but nothing happens. It also does nothing when I turn it in manual focus mode.

Canada Post only insures for loss and not damage. Yeah, sounds ridiculous but it's true

If you bought off Ebay or another guaranteed site and paid with PayPal.....simply file a claim and they will get your $$$ back.
If you bought it off Craigslist or some other means....don't bother.....Just suck it up and move on.
