First New Lens for my K-1

Will be the DFA 28-105; the samples look absolutely stunning.

It's a nice lens. Amazingly compact for a FF image circle, and quite good optically if you correct the vignetting and don't mind the slower aperture.

Good points Adam, I think the focal range and IQ is what is so appealing, and with the K-1 being able to excel at higher ISO's if need be, it checks the boxes for me for now. Eventually, I'll probably get the 24-70 first followed by the 15-30 and the 70-200 to make the perfect setup, but for now the mix of legacy and new lenses should keep me going. Definitely a great time to be a Pentaxian.

I have been going back and forth between the 24-70 and 28-105. Finally made up my mind and ordered the 24-70, now I'm having second thoughts. Guess I will try it and see, if it's too big I'll send it back and go with the 28-105.............

The 24-70 should be the next step up in IQ over the 28-105.

Pick up an FA20 and you are set landscape wise. Only thing left is the 70-200 and DA560 and you have the complete Pro Pentax kit

I know. I'm just not looking forward to carrying the darn thing.............

I have a FA 20-35 f/4 and a Pentax-A 20mm f/2.8 so I think I'm good there. I don't do a lot of really UWA so I think 20mm might be OK for me. I also kept the DA*60-250 when I sold most of my APS-C gear so I'll see what that looks like on FF before I worry about anything new in that range.

The K-1 special site Gallery has a stunning picture taken with this lens:PENTAX K-1 Laboratory | PENTAX K-1 Special site | RICOH IMAGING
Note the nice bokeh and sharp detail at 105 mm. Maybe 24-70 for around town and 28-105 for travel?

Step up in both size and weight too

Tee...Hee... I sort of feel the same way about my Sigma 17-70 (C) on the K-3.

I already have a Sigma 28-105mm F3.8-5.6 UC III that I've been using on the old ZX-5n. So... No weather sealing, no DC motor, but it costs nothing and is very lightweight. You can probably find these for about $50 on fleaBay. It'll do to get started.

However. . . I've got my eye on the classic 43mm Limited. A compact normal lens is a fine thing to have.

Got my lenses out on the table and paper & pencil trying to figure out a new lens line up. And sorting through filters and trying to match up a set of ND's and CPL's to go with. I had a really good setup for APS-C and mow I'm starting all over. And teh 82mm filter size for the 24-70 has put a twist in everything.

To be honest, mostly just playing around waiting for the darn camera to arrive.

But I still need a solid FF kit and no idea, yet, what is going to make the grade and what is going to get sold. I've collected a nice assortment of moderately priced FF lenses over the years. Many arrived with other stuff I've bought and had so little resale value I kept them. Now they are going to get a chance to perform or get sent on.

The DFA 28-105 looks to be an absolute winner from the sample pictures. If quality control is decent and the pictures turn out to be as good as the samples, then Pentax has a lens that will surely rival with existing competition.

For the beginning I have some prime lenses I can use. And my 24-90mm IF lens I'll give a try. chances are that it will show an average performance ... *sigh*.
I'll try my FF lenses and 'consolidate' my portfolio. If I have to buy new lenses the first one will be the 28-105.

The few images from the 28-105 I've seen look truly amazing. If you don't need the f2.8, or the added weight, it looks like a great buy. Tough call.

My three zooms will be the FA 20-35mm f4, Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 instead of the Sigma 10-20, Sigma 17-50 and DA* 50-135 combo I use on APS-C.

Buying the K-1 this year was a little unexpected for me, so I will probably only be able to afford a new lens for it in about 2035 AD.

The primes will be the 14mm and 24mm Samyangs, 35mm Sigma Art, 50mm DFA f2.8 Macro and FA77 Ltd.

I'm undecided. I'm considering keeping my Sigma 18-35 and 50-135 for doing events so the file sizes are smaller and faster to work with... either that or shoot in full and crop after retaining more MP than the 15.
