I'm in love - SMC Pentax 35mm F3.5

Got this lens in a collection with a Chinon CE-4 among other lenses, havn't even tried the other ones yet, not even glansed at them..
I thought I would try this lens on my K3, just for fun, se how bad it was... Well was I wrong! I really like the rendering and colors, and it's sharp too.
I like it so much that I have commited to a project during my parentleave, 6 months (thank you Sweden) with a picture/day becoming a photo book at the end.
I will leave some pictures here, this was just the first snaps..

Right now my Pentax 15 ltd, Pentax 60-250/f4, Pentax 50/1.8, Tamron 90 Macro and Tamron 17-50/2,8 get a well earned rest, only problem I have is that the lens doesn't communicate the aperture..

Yes, I would say so

The Pentax-K 35/3.5 is very highly regarded. Congratulations!

That is so funny--I just got my copy of the lens this week and was similarly infatuated. As your great photos attest, it really does "blue" well.

IIRC this lens shares its optics with the 35mm f/3.5 Takumars; I own the Super Takumar iteration of that lens, and it has done some very good things indeed when the light is right and the flare is not an issue. Yours, having the full SMC coating, should do even better.

As for the lack of electronic aperture reporting, I find that to be a nuisance only because (a) it makes life with a P-TTL flash difficult (thyristor flashes such as my AF200Sa do MUCH better) and (b) it can be a pain sometimes when you're shooting for a single-in challenge and you forget which aperture you used for that particular shot. On the other hand, the amount of film I shoot means that lack of electronic reporting is a dead issue (the Super Takumars don't report their apertures to the camera in ANY form).

The quality of a lot of older Pentax glass often surprises people.
We need to keep it a secret! Otherwise Sony users will steal away lenses like yours.

At least they don't mutilate the ******* aperture levers!

IN this poll, the 35 was the biggest vote getter, at 33%. Second was the Tamron 17-50 at 26% followed by the DA 35 2.4 at 23%.

Look at the beautiful traditional Pentax rendering of the blues and greens!

I have a eunuch K35/2.

My K35/3.5 is the second lens I ever bought (K50/1.4 came with the KX). Given the number of lenses I've bought and sold I mean it when I call this my 'cold, dead fingers' lens. Very sharp and contrasty with punchy colors.

Has anyone compared the SMC 35mm f3.5 to the SMC 35mm f2.8 (A version) in terms of IQ?

i have the m35/2.8, which is supposed to have the same optics as the a35/2.8... it's better in the corners on ff, all of the newer wide m lenses that i've looked at tend to do that.

the old tak really pops across the middle 2/3rds of the frame tho, it's a winner on crop, or ff, if you don't mind the corners.

if bokeh is a priority, you might want to look at something else.

I have the A35/2.8 and a Super Tak 35/3.5. The A35 might be a touch sharper - colors are similar. But as osv mentioned, the Tak's strengths are in the center, and its oof rendering is more pleasing to me.

Nice to see it's not only me who loves this lens
I was really suprised by how well it renders blue to, as I see many of you mentioning.
Just bought a new car and I really like how it looks through the lens
