Handheld at 1/80s and f/5 that's the Vivi Series 1 105mm.

Just realised: Hope it's ok to post it, as I don't want to hijaak the thread. But I do think it's worth while comparing lenses across the price ranges. This wouldn't exactly count as cheap at $400, but it is a bargain for what one gets.

Voigtlander 125mm had been one of my travel lens kit. Consistant optical performance and very reliable. The rendering is just simply superb.

As a Vivi Series 1 105mm owner I would like to see some justification for this. Compared to my other lenses (FA43, FA77) this certainly could not be rated much less... maybe more even. I guess this means you think most lenses are only average?

Or more likely you're just hyping the Voigtlander too much.
it's not hype.
the CA on the VIV/Kiron was too much for me at 1:1.
as many people have mentioned, the VL is virtually CA free.

as for comparing it against 43, 77, it would be like comparing apples and oranges.

So, the lack of CA justifies a rating of 7/10 for one lens and 10/10 for the other? When CA is usually avoidable in camera and an easily corrected flaw in development? I have no doubt the Lanther is a great lens, but give me a break.

If anything this lens illustrates the law of diminishing returns. If it is a 10 and there's no other point you can make in its favour over the Vivi I'd say the latter was a 9.5. Meanwhile the FA43 and FA77 that you apparently dismiss have at least three advantages: size, speed and auto-focus. I would have a hard time rating them any less than 9.5 as well, though some might reserve that for the FA31 (which I have not used).

I would give a 7 only to something significantly worse, like maybe the kit lens.

Well, canon and nikon are the kings for superb lens manufacturers. Of course that everything other than these two brands are inferior to them in terms of optical rendering and build.

We are only pentax.

Current Price is $1375.00 on EBAY !!!

Another 3 more hours to go, I wouldn't be surprised if it reached $1500 !!!!

Too bad that it is out of my price range !!! For the time being I am satisfied with my recently acquired Vivitar Series 1 105mm (a mint one including original packaging - I paid $325.00 for that) and a Pentax 77mm that I am planning to buy soon..
