Thanks, Jimbo. I've taken the advice I give others on photo courses, and am deliberately going out with only one lens from time to time. That series with the 12-24 came from one of those, on a walk with my wife. I am far from disappointed with the results.

I tried using it alone again recently, but it was not a good choice for a historic site - the long end was too short. This was at the Bar U Ranch in Alberta. If you want to see some shots, I used the 16-50 one day, and the 12-24 the next. I can load them up so others can see them
Would love to see to see some of the shots from the Bar U Ranch.. I am heading to the rockies early fall. Revelstoke is my home town and I wanted to get up to the top of Mount Revlestoke to take some shots. From what I remember as a kid, there are some great shots there... Of coarse I will also hit Rodgers Pass too.. Cheers and look forward to seeing your next photo's. JIMBO

Nice shots Jay ... I am after something wide ... but the Pentax offeringis a tad on the expensive side for me at the moment ... I have ben looking out for the Sigma 10-20 though.

Would be interesting to see the upcoming Tamron 10-24mm though. I reckon it'd still demand $$$$$

I really would love to get something in the 10-12mm range especially for car shows where room is limited ... and you can't really back up to take the shot.

What's the minimum focussing distance of this (Pentax 12-24mm) lens????

It focuses in to 1 foot / 0.3 meters.

I'm off to use up some more card space tomorrow, so I'll load some up to the Flickr site next week some time, and post a note on the site.

PS - if you really like the name "Canadian_Rockies" you can use it - mine is "Canada_Rockies"

In a sense, the Mall of America is kind of an insane place.

nice shots, jsherman999, we are not allowed to use DSLR to take photos inside the Mall in Canada; although no one will challenge you if you use a P&S or camera phone to take pictures...

example of flare

could someone direct me to a pic that shows flare in the pic using this lens? Can flare be minimized using a filter of some kind?

Here's a few from the trek into or out of the Ngorongor crater where it shows:

In the foreground bottom, to the left of center:

Looking directly into the sun that's partially behind the mountain ahead:

For one, I was using a filter which increases the production of it. In all instances, difficult shooting conditions relative to where the sun is.

However not here on thie sunrise (sun wasn't bright enough)...

All in all, the possibility of it happening is not at all something that concerns me. The number of spectacular photos taken w/it going int & out of the crater relative to any where it's seen negates that small percentage: 070815 - [In&Out o/t Dust-Bowl - REDUX] Ngorongoro Crater Conservation album | m8o | Fotki.com

Lordy.

I can't figure out why I didn't have this lens sooner. Nice, m80 & Jimbo, and Marc, that bridge shot just kills me.

But you're still online - you're not dead yet!!! Seriously, thank you for the kind words. That is one of my fastest image approvals in the PPG - perhaps 2-3 days max!

That was the only photo session I did last fall - it was a 2-3 day window of fall colors... I lucked out... although I had a vague idea of what I wanted in the image....

Cheers,
Marc
