How about a DA85 f1.8 or f1.4?

I would instantly alter my plans if Pentax ever were to make such a lens.

I would be all over that lens if they brought it back. Unfortunately the 85 f1.4's go for a cool $1000 for what I've seen (and are MF)...and the f2.0 "soft" version isn't appealing to me.

Yep...a DA85 1.8/1.7/1.4 would be absolutely ideal. I used my wife's cousins Canon 5d (shudder)...with the 85mm 1.2 last Christmas for a few minutes. It was an awesome lens, but waaaaaay more than I would spend. I'd never shoot Canon either...

P.S. Shall we start a petition?

Y'know I bought the FA77 since it was not much more than a DA70 and has the extra stop which really matters. But auto-focus speed was not my concern. I use MF for critical stuff and in a studio situation there's all the time in the world to focus. Actually, there's usually all the time you need to focus out in the real world too. Are your portrait subjects running away from you?

But given you already have the Sigma in that range maybe a fast 50 is your best bet? It's cheap and gives you more focal length versatility. I bought the FA43 because I wanted something a bit shorter and was convinced by the amazing 3D high-saturation image quality. (Would have preferred the FA31 but my budget ended there.)

Or, just get a 1.4 50mm and have fun.

I have the FA50 1.4 also....and yes...we take pictures of children - playing the backyard, having waterfights, etc. They are moving around quickly and AF is my main concern. The 50 is a little shorter than I like to shoot.

I think I will get by with my 50/Tamron 28-75/Sigma 70mm...unless a good deal comes my way. Like I said...I was only wondering if the 50+TC would be a viable option against the 70 & 77 ltd's.

i don't know this for sure, but TCs with shorter focal lengths usually doesn't turn out the right way
AF speed was discussed a bit in this thread here https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/31816-77-ltd-v...autofocus.html

I should add to my earlier post that although the FA 50 + 1.4x Tamron was fine by f/2.8, the bokeh got messed up in weird ways. If you're wanting a 70mm lens for portraits, then you don't want to have a distracting background, right?

Personally, I'm hanging on to my Jupiter-9 until Pentax releases the DA* 90mm f/1.4. The 35mm-equiv. FoV is 135mm, and seeing as Pentax seem to be replicating 35mm-equiv. FoVs, it would make sense to release this lens after the DA* 55mm (85mm 35mm-equiv. FoV).

I won't hold my breath though.

Well...I guess I'm one of the boys now! Now I need to find gobs of cash in the couch cushions to pay for this thing... Wish me luck.
