Are the E mount lenses identical to the K mount ones, or are there optical differences? I thought Samyang had two lineups, one for m43 and smaller, and one for APSC and FF (and then further divided to still photo and cine lenses). If these E mount are similar to other DSLR mount lenses, then we might see AF for Samyang K lenses in the future. With the 14mm this might not be a big deal, but with 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm and 135mm this would be huge!
The split isn't quite as you thought:

They have their FF lineup that they make for DSLRs and mirrorless, even M43. E.g.: 16/2, 24/1.4, 35/1.4, 85/1.4, 100/2.8 macro, 135/2.

They have some FF lenses that they don't make for mirrorless mounts except Sony E. E.g.: 12/2.8 fisheye, 24/3.5 T-S, 50/1.4.

They have APS-C lenses that they make for DSLRs and mirrorless; they designate these as "CS". E.g.: 10/2.8, 16/2.

They have APS-C lenses that they only make for mirrorless; these also get the "CS" designation. E.g.: 12/2, 21/1.4, 50/1.2.

I've tried the Samyang 135mm lens. Super sharp.

If it comes out in AF, I'd probably buy one.

I intend to buy the 85mm Samyang for my soon to arrive K1. I'd love to have AF if it becomes available. Meanwhile MF will work for me!

Regards!

I don't mind MF for many situations - - learned on it, used it far longer that AF, still use it for all macro work. BUT, I surely wish I could get an all-microprism spot screen, that's what I learned with and always preferred.

Ah, interesting. Maybe the labels will become more clear after this new step into AF territory.

They (Sigma specifically) never had any problem in the film era, nor in the digital era right up to the 18-35mm/1.8 Art - at least for those who got a copy that would focus properly.
But no any agreement between Sigma and Pentax, Sigma hacked K-mount protocol...It's funny - sometimes you can see in exif the name of Pentax F or FA zooms instead of Sigma.

Sigma 70-200/2.8 HSM II freezes at K-1.

By the way, there were some problems with old Sigma lenses with Pentax, Nikon and Canon's new cameras, but very rare.

Just wow ! That's a huge news ! I have the 16mm f/2, the 35mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 and it would be amazing to see these lenses with AF.
I am wondering however what the impact of AF would be on the cost of lenses...
I would think an extra $200-300.

It's fact. The same with Tamron and all 3rd party lens makers.

An AF 135 would be pretty sweet, especially on FF. I'd probably get one as long as the price was reasonable.

I think we'll all be watching this one with interest, especially since they already make a fairly broad range of lenses for K mount.
Some lenses are more difficult to manual focus then others. Especially the 85/1,4 and 135/2 will sell better because of AF.

The 14/2,8 and 50/1,4 are the same in E and K mount. But other lenses may differ and be specifically designed for short flange distance or FT or APS-C image circles.

Great step for Samyang (Bower, Vivitar, etc). I'd like to see them try their technology on an edif manual focus long telephoto, 400mm, 500mm or 600mm f5.6 for example, and get away from the mirror lenses.
I think the AF is the key to make telephoto lenses in volume. That said, their mirror lenses are very poor designs. Even 30+ years old Tamron Adaptall-2 mirror lenses are much better then brand new Samyang mirror lenses. If they can renew the mirror design I would like a AF mirror lens from them too.

Yeah, I saw those reviews of the telescopes and mirror lenses that are 400mm +. All pretty terrible, very limited usability. It would be really cool if they made a high quality prime in the 200 to 400mm range. But I guess AF would be much more important for that kind of lens than for the core Samyang lenses - the ultra-wides, the portrait lenses. Again, this AF step could mean big things in the future, if it is successful

I would appreciate knowing if the K mount design hinders Sigma and other companies from offering their lenses for Pentax DSLR's. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
Yes, there are problems with the K-mount and other manufacturers.

I know this is an old thread, but Samyang has now added one Canon AF lens, their 14mm f2.8.

Here is the Rokinon branded version :
Rokinon

No Nikon yet, no micro 4/3 either, so we will probably wait a while for K mount versions I am afraid.
Still, good that they are expanding beyond a single brand. I wonder what made it easier to do the Sony E mount first.
