FA-J 18-35mm on K1: General performance

Hi All.

If someone has the FA-J 18-35mm and a K1, can they please provide some feedback on how good/poor the lens performs. I've seen examples mounted on a Sony but I really would like to see K1 examples and thoughts.

Also, I am not that worried about wide open performance. More about how it will be in the F5.6-F16 range, ie, landscapes type settings or where I want great depth of field.

For a genuine full frame 18mm wide perspective, it is very inexpensive.

I look forward to your feedback.

It's on my list of lenses to test. But there are so many that I haven't got there yet. I'll try to remember to post something here.

this is cool,... can't wait for your tests guys. thanks in advanced! Highly interested!

The question is now

Pentax 18-35
Sigma 17-35 or
Tamron 17-35 ???

(Thats the question for me as I can't afford the 15-30 which I would absolutely love )

Did you buy the one from Warwick that was on eBay?

My ultra wide angle options for K-1 are currently only M20/4 and FAJ18-35. I'm going to see which one performs better after this weekend. I hope at least one of them will be up to the taks of rendering all the pixels nicely.

I'm interested in the Tamron 17-35mm, has anyone used it on the K1 in FF mode yet?

Looking forward to seeing this comparison.

I have no detailed analysis yet, but yesterday I managed to snap few shots before sunset. Pretty disappointing, the corner sharpness is quite bad, with substantial chromatic aberrations on both lenses. Stopping down to f16 yields usable results, if the picture is not subjected to excessive pixel peeping.
FAJ came out better, mostly because it allows to use polariser. There is AFAIK no such thing as slim CPL with 49mm thread, and the M20 vignettes badly with regular CPL (black corners).
I hope for something like Canons EF 17-40/4 to be available soon on K-mount. DFA15-30 is too large, expensive and heavy.

I have two slim polarizers (CPL) in 49mm mount that I use without any issue on my Pentax-M 20/4, one branded Fotga (not very good) and the other one branded Nisi (good quality, no color cast). Try googling "NiSi 49mm WMC CPL Filter Ultra Thin Waterproof Multi Coating Polarizing Filter".

Cheers!

Thanks! Today I just learned how to get decent sharpness in the corners with the M20, I just have to switch to liveview and carefully focus with special care about the corner. Then it is quite good at f16. It still lacks some contrast and extra sharpness of more modern designs, but it's an ok stop-gap solution.

Not to hijack the thread ...

But does anyone here have the Sigma 12-24 FF lens?
