I was talking mainly about vignetting. I'll try to upload a shot or two from my copy and they are pretty decent. As I said before, the problem at wide apertures is that it is hard to have the corners in focus due to depth of field issues. I guess the only way to know for sure when they sharpen up is to shoot a wall of some kind. I just haven't done that.
Ok ok! Yeah, for most use, sharpness in the corners on the da* 55mm would be a non issue since the subject is rarely there - I also use it as a portrait lens, so I usually shoot with it at large apertures, thus I expect to be happy with its performance if/when I end up using it on full frame. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I ended up buying the DA* 55mm today. On the first look the sharpness is amazing if in focus and without motion blur.
Lack of corner sharpness is there, but really only the extremes.
Almost non vignetting, I think even the original hood can be used. It gave me only very mild vignetting wide open (not 100% sure if this was even by use of the hood).

Will soonish post some samples too.

I am trying to make a hood for this gem.
The knock off hood for the 55-300 has the filter window and the same bayonet mount as the DA*55
3 hood, and a sharp knife. Don't try this If you are handy with a knife. Yet better use a little saw...

I shaved it until there no difference in corner light fall off...

Need to clean it though.

EDIT: mounts normally, but when reversed mount at 90 degree instead at 0 degree as the original.
