Broken 24-70 D FA Lens...

I am new to this forum. I plan on posting pics from my new K-1 which absolutely rocks! But this unfortunately is a negative post. Just after 3 days of shooting my K-1 along with my new 24-70mm FF lens fell off the tripod. Ouch. It was night time. I was using an L bracket. And obviously it wasn't attached properly....

Question-Has anyone had repairs on any Pentax lenses? The glass is fine. It's just the top got smashed. The K-1 is fine.

Thanks

That is terrible. I know the feeling, had my k-3 blow over tripod and all in a gust of wind. I don't ever want to feel the sinking feeling in my stomach again.

Below is the link for Pentax warranty work. Other places might also do the work but Precision is the authorized warranty center, though I suppose this will not be warranty.

Incidental damage wouldn't be covered, but I don't think this is a total loss. I'd contact Precision for a quite.

Sorry to hear of the accident but great to hear you are enjoying the K-1. I'm still working out how to fund it in order to gain approval from my financial controller - she doesn't quite share the same excitement for the K-1 for some reason.

As Adam says, it looks well worth getting a quote for that.
Otherwise if it was going to cost too much (say the bulk of the purchase price), and it is still working Ok, you could probably find someone here to help tidy it up (or do it your self).

If you bought the lens on a credit card, the repair may be covered.

Thank you. I will look into all your suggestions. And yes. The K-1 is amazing. I will get to that on another post.

My wife damaged the 24-70 while shooting a wedding. It bent the mount. Cost ended up being 250 to fix, but it works great now. Definitely cheaper than getting a new lens.

Did Precision Camera do the repair?

Unfortunately there might be more problems than are currently obvious.

The force of an impact sufficient to damage the lens may have caused problems within the lens - de-centering for example, damaged the lens and/or camera mount, or damaged something within the camera itself.

I'd get the lot checked out, maybe in conjunction with an accidental damage claim on your insurance (assuming you have such cover?).

Ditto - Exactly what I was going to say. Worth checking into if you used a credit card for purchase.
