FA 50 rattle?

Does your FA50 1.4 rattle a little when shaken? (even when installed on the camera)

Mine (just got it) does. Seems to work fine though. Presumably I am worried about nothing...

I never noticed, but after your post I tried and indeed, a slight rattle when shaken. I get the idea I might hear the aperture blades move a bit or something.
I'm not a bit worried though, I absolutely love this lens and it works just fine!

My FA50 also rattles a little, but it works perfectly fine, so I donīt worry.

A bit of rattle out of a lens is normal.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread but I have both a FA 50mm/2.8 macro and the DA 18-55 kit lens and on both, the barrel that extends out when focused has quite some play and rattles when shaken. Is this really normal? Seems to me the plane of the front elements should be in perfect alignment with the elements in back.

This is new to me since my screwmount lenses are much more solid feeling than these.
Even the Tamron 70-300 I have has less play and rattling.

These were purchased used so I'm worried.

Ohh, come on! Working on your pun-ner of the month title?

Assuming you have no tiny snakes in your lenses I'd say it's normal. Even my 16-50 has front barrel movement - but at least it doesn't rattle.
I don't know how your rattling sounds so it could either be the aperture mechanism or the extending front barrel. If it's the barrel this is due to production tolerances - especially on cheaper lenses they are higher and the materials used could expand more in heat so it would jam without these "loose" fits.

Thanks for the reassurance. I guess the newer lenses aren't as nicely made as the old all metal ones even though they cost so much more. Even the focusing and zoom feel cheaper but I guess its something I have to get used to.

Unfortunately, yes. The only way to get still well made full metal lenses is to switch to Leica. Not really helping much so yes, you have to seal with it.
I also don't like the newer all plastic lenses at all.
