I agree about trying out the Sigma. I'd have to try the 105 also. My current 105 is actually a Viv Series 1. I actually interested in the Sigma 180mm but at that price, I'll certainly have to try it out first!

The sigma 180 would be very, very nice, however, for me, I like to shoot macro & close-focus handheld whenever possible. I think it might be pretty tough to do that with the 180mm. (based on the fact that it's already getting hard at 105mm (Viv) for me, I could be wrong about the 180's level of difficulty.)

Handheld macro with the DA 35ltd is actually very easy, with the FA 50 macro it was still pretty easy, and with the Viv 105 it's getting tougher but still very possible. I suspect the Sigma 70 will fall in between the FA 50 & Viv 105's level of difficulty.

If you're a serious macro wiz and are going to be using a tripod with rails, etc, the Sigma 180's probably a fantastic choice.

Sigma 180mm aren't hard with handheld, just need some getting used to. In Singapore we have a group of 20 butterfly photographers who are armed with Tamron/Sigma 180mm almost all doing ot handheld (with flash). Some are small size build at around 45+yrs old.

My current combo for near 180mm is Vivitar S1 105mm + T-CON17, 656g + 260g = 916g. I'm doing it handheld (the only way I know), sometime even with 1 hand. The Sigma 180mm is 984g. What I'm saying is don't be limit or put off by the weight. If u can afford go for it.

Hi. I got the lens last night and took a few quickie shots of my dog to test it, shooting indoors at night with no flash on my K10D.

I was amazed at how great the pics came. They were surprisingly sharp and that was just point and shoot and playing around and not seriously "trying" (Not worth showing here, by the way) The clarity was very impressive. I never knew my dog was so photogenic

I think I will be very happy with this lens.

And for my next, I plan to go longer, with the 180, so the 70 fits nicely in my lens roadmap.

I was hoping to revitalize this thread as I am in the same boat trying to decide between these two lens. Anybody owned both? The Tammy has a rebate right now making it 60 bucks cheaper.

Bought this lens a few days ago and this is the first time I ever owned a macro lens. I took me longer really to decide if you just keep on reading reviews and sample photos. Anyway I picked the 70mm and very happy with the results.
