Yep, because that's FA31 territory.

It would probably be odd if someone owned both those lenses, IMHO, with less than a stop between them.
It would, wouldn't it?

Bu the way, there is a bit more than one stop between f/1.2 and f/1.8: f/1.2 ÷ √2 ≈ f/1.7.

When I had the FA 31mm, I never shot it at 1.8 because it also "glowed" and had tremendous CA wide open (but IIRC didn't fringe as bad as the 77). Of course, the FA = AF (palindrome) and smaller and lighter.

The Kerlee 35/1.2 has aperture click-stops (when enabled) at 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 (unlabeled, but midway), 1.8, 2, 2.4 (unlabeled), 2.8 etc. so "stopping down" to 1.8 is easy enough. Honestly, I wouldn't use this lens wide open unless I really had to, just like the FA Ltds. The DA 35 Macro Ltd is an exception to that... and an unfair comparison for any 35mm IMHO.

Exactly. LBA is an illness listed in the DSM, Mistral!

Yes, you're right ... it's significant.

Edit: I really mean that ... a doubling of any quantity in photography usually is!

The question is, how close to the f1.2 do you get with a DSLR? A couple years ago there was some discussion about how the various camera manufacturers kind of fudged the exposure at the very large apertures; you don't really get f1.2 worth of light at the sensor due to the angle of the light hitting the sensor. I did a couple tests with f1.2, and it seemed to indicate the same thing. Will you really get the light-gathering advantage of f1.2 from this lens, not on a film camera?

But that is an industry problem, not a manufacturer problem. Its just something you have to accept if you want f1.4 or faster.
In general, the f-numbers have become a convention rather than accurate representations. T-numbers might be more accurate, but they are not as useful for photographers.

No pics from me - I think I was using the K-1 or Panoguy's body to shoot. For the record, I thought the lens balanced quite nicely on the end of the K-1, and was quite tactile to use. It was nice to have full 35mm semi-wide value back, the colour rendering seems more Sigma, than Pentax. That said, it seemed quite contrasty across the light from F4 onward.

I am surprised that we got anything in focus, given how hard it was blowing that day!

I see a contender for another test against my FA31mm f/1.8 - CA doesn't seem to be too bad, however the lower contrast @f/1.2 masks a lot of it. From the front focused f/8 "infinity" shot, resolution looks lower than that of the FA31.
