I retired to Florida and I have plenty of cash. But I'm not sure a F4 lens is worth over a 1000.oo bucks.

Yeah, I mean what the heck is up with this lens? Almost $8K and it's ONLY f/4? WTH?

But seriously, I would think this lens would eventually settle down to about $1100 or so. I have the optically excellent Canon 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM and I paid around $1100, and GASP, it's only f/4!!!!!! But it's a freaking amazing piece of glass.

And 250mm f/4 is quite a bit more than 200mm f/4 (62.5mm vs. 50mm), and it's wider @60mm vs. 70mm. I'd say Pentax has come out with a winner!

I'm willing to think it'll go even lower than that; depending on sales.

If it's down to 1000 or less by January or Feb. I may pick one up.
With the economy as screwed up as it is, It should be cheaper soon.

Geez guys, $1500 msrp will drop, by Christmas I'm sure it will be under $1300 and if it's optically what they claim to be it would also explain it's high price.

Now with that said why the hell have we not seen some sample shots from it as yet? many people shot with it at photokina so someone post the shots already!

I saw the 60-250 write up on DP (they mention that it was to be released in 2007). I see the lens clearly on the Pentax Web site..... so where is it ? I held off buying the 50-135 waiting for the 60-250. Finally went out and bought the 50-135 and said the hell with waiting for something that might never come. I was also disappointed with the fact that the 60-250 will be f4-f32 (hoping for a bit faster)

DP also shows a new 55mm f1.4 with a supersonic motor (and manual focus ability) - huge improvement over the present 50mm f1.4 that does not have a manual focus feature (making it practically useless)

I've come to the conclusion that the 60-250 will be released after the Ulan Bator Photo Exposition.
Not sure where you got the idea that the FA50/1.4 doesn't have manual focus ability, as it most certainly does. What it doesn't allow is for manual focus touch-ups while autofocus is switched on, as the technology wasn't in place when it was built.

I assure you that the FA50/1.4 is far from useless. It is an extremely competent lens.

New DA*60-250/4 is FF lens.
Tested on Z-1. No any problems at all.

For a useless lens, I really like using it.

I can hardly wait to see what using a "usefull" lens is like!

Let's see... the 50mm 1.4 does not have a real manual focus ring (if you can call the narrow ring a real user adjustment I take my hat off to you), and the pentax support people that I have talked to admit that the lens was a quick cheap solution to create a faster 50mm lens to keep the market happy until they determined what sales potential there would be for a fast 50. Hell ,we can all hammer in nails with a rock..... but we are smart enough to recognoze a hammer when we see it. The new lens will put the old lens to shame, not even in the same league.

What the hell are you ranting about? I use the FA 50mm f1.4 because its AF and if I need to I CAN manual focus it. Granted, its not the ideal focus ring. If I want a manual focus, I whip out the smc M 50mm f1.4. I challenge you to show me a lens that can out perform it for less than $200, especially one with AF capability. It is more likely to be > $500 to be in its league.
