Is Pentax K100D fully compatible with Tamron 28-75 mm f:/2.8?

Greetings everybody,

I'm Pentax K100D user and have taken photos with the kit lens for a year. I mostly take photos of people and nature. So I'd like to buy Tamron 28-75mm f:/2.8 soon. Can you write your opinions about this lens? I read some front focusing problems about the lens in the forum. And you know my camera doesn't support SDM technology. Does anyone know if the Tamron 28-75 mm is fully compatible with the K100D?

Thanks for your response...

this lens doesn't employ any kind of SDM and is thus fully compatible with your K100D. you should check out the tamron website for more info on the lens if you haven't already. AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF); Tamron USA, Inc.

sorry I cant give you any review of the lens, I don't use pentax auto focus lenses much less tamron's.

You can't go wrong with this lens. If you get a clean copy of it, it will probably be your stay on lens forever. It's sharp at every aperture (except perhaps at focal length extremes at f/2.8), producing well contrasted images and renders colours beautifully.

Well worth every cent of its cost.
It's one of the more reliable lenses and I haven't heard many problems with it on this forum.
My two thumbs are up for this lens...

My fave lens for portraits

You cant go wrong with this lens if the 28-75 range is in you shooting zone...

It is truly my favorite lens right now on my K100d

Ditto everyone else. I had the 28-75 with my DS and K10D and it always produced great images. It also autofocused fairly fast (faster on the K10D) using the screw drive (due to the very short focus throw)

What they need to do is stick Sigma's HSM (or Canon's USM) into this lens and I'd be all over it....The AF on the Canon mount is kinda sucky (uses an old micro-motor) but it's alot cheaper than the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L.

we do have a third party lens review database - USE IT

Guys,(and Gals)

as one of the promoters of the third party lens review data base, I suggest you use it. this means not only those that are interested in a lens, as a good reference, but also those who have data on a lens, and those who want to put a review forward on how it behaves, any funny characteristics etc.

We pushed very hard for the site administrators to put the third party lens review data base together, and from the redirected hits, people seem to be looking, but a lot don't seem to look there.

Sorry for this mild rant,

Great lens. You won't be disappointed, as long as the focal range for the lens meets your photographic needs.

I love mine.

On my camera 65% of the time and the 90 mm Tamron marco 30% of the time with the 12-24 Pentax following up in the rear.. poor 18-250 Tarmon [great lens through to about 150mm] but the pictures I am taken most these days lends to the two others. This lens even fell off a moving car on to the ground and keeps on ticking.... I am patiently awaiting a 70-200 2.8 Sigma, due out in September now and will go with a 150 macro next... damn hobby! Cheers Jimbo
