Is this lens worth repairing?

Or should I just toss it?

The main body and focusing barrel seem to have excessive play, although it works, there is definately something "broken" about it.

I have a hardly used kitstar that looks a lot like it, which I've been meaning to throw out.
If they were made by the same company I wouldn't accept it if someone gave it to me. I never got a single decent image from that lens

More to the point, is that lens repairable? It is a 20 year (at least) old third party lens of third grade quality. Make that one into a vase for flowers, and look for another cheap lens.

For $115 or less KEH has 2 Autofocus Sigma 70 - 300 non-apo lenses.
Here's the link
In my opinion they're both much better lenses than what you have there, and I'm sure that you'd welcome the autofocus.

They also have several Manual Focus lenses in that focal length for a fraction of that price
Try sticking to companies like Sigma, Vivitar, Tokina and Tamron.

Don't forget Pentax

You could disassemble the lens to look what's inside.

If it was me I'd just buy several Pentax Screwmount prime lenses instead of fixing that one

Although if I wait long enough someone will just give me one

I'll save you the trouble- Do NOT mount that on your *istD! I had one of those lenses on my ZX-L and had to take a hacksaw to it get it off. If you look closely at the mount on the lens, the screw holes are recessed. The AF coupler has a tendency to get stuck in them during mounting/unmounting. It doesn't happen every time- I had mine for a couple months before it got stuck as I tried to take it off. However, once is more than enough when the thought runs through your head that you now have an inoperable camera, a 1000 dollar paperweight. I forget the cost to get it off, but it would have been something like 3 or 4 weeks. Totally not worth it.

you could try the mythbuster thing and fire a bullet down the length of the lens That's what I wanted to do with mine before I had to destroy it to get it off my camera.
