Took my "new" lens out for a spin!

I got my shiny "new" (it does like it's new, doesn't that count? ) Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro a few days ago! Of course, a new lens does no good when it sits in it's nice leather pouch, so I took it for a spin in the "flower garden". (A few flowers beside the sidewalk of the house.) Having AF on a 1:1 lens is all very good, but I find that I get by just fine using my eyes to see when it's in focus. I just set it to MF at 1:1, and shoot!

Unfortunately this resized preview doesn't let you see the individual eyes that make up the compound eye, but if you click through and view it large, they're very visible!

Hoverfly on Corn Speedwell flower: Shot with my K-5IIs + 90mm Macro + YN-560 III diffused.

Great shot. With these high quality macro lenses you can go beyond f8 to squeeze out some extra DOF, if light permits. Even with diffraction they are still plenty sharp. With my DFA 100, f11, f13, f16 are still very sharp.

Nice shot, man. The Tamron 90 was always a favorite of mine (right behind the D-FA 100 WR). The VC version of the Tamron is my number one lens on my D610

yes, I do the same. I use auto focus to start, switch my Sigma 105 macro to manual focus then just move my body in and out to achieve the focus point I desire. It really is quite easy. If you can set the Tamron 90 to manual focus, you can hold down the AF button and the camera (works with my K-7 and K-1) beeps at you when focus is achieved. I don't know if the K-5 will do this, but can't imagine they would disable the feature in other models. I also stay on center spot focus, so I pick the point of focus instead of allowing the camera to choose.

Awesome photo! Both that camera and that lens are on my 'when my wife's boss wins the lottery' wish list.
