Pentax Lenses - Dreamy Good

Even though I don'y have the K-1, my K-3 2 and K-3 are brilliant camera's and a lot more intuitive, weather resistant and ergonomic than any competitors crop camera in my hands. While the masses criticize the lack of lenses in the Pentax arsenal(a tilt shift, 300 f/2.8etc), for me as an enthusiast photographer, I have never felt lacking. I'm not sure that you could put together a list of primes smaller, better built and with such magnificent color rendition as the Pentax lineup. When I am shooting all primes - I pick up my four lens kit - 15/31/55/100 - Absolutely brilliant. If I want Zooms - Tamron 17-50, Pentax 50-135 and Pentax 60-250. I've seen reviews by pixel peepers saying a lot of these lenses are nit sharp. All I know is that I am able to generate brilliant, dreamy and supremely color saturated prints from my Pentax set up

Actually, for APS-C, Pentax probably has the best lens range of any of the camera manufacturers. Where it falls down is access to 3rd party lenses (Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc) where the pickings are scant or non-existent. Is that Ricoh's fault? Partially.

Another perceived "failing", depending on your viewpoint, may also be that many of these excellent lenses are still screw drive, which does look rather dated. Also, there is a lack of fast glass in certain FL ranges. However, on build and optical quality I agree, the Pentax lineup is impressive.

Check out the DFA 150-450, which is really sharp, and when paired with the 1.4tc gives you 630mm! It is amazing for moon shots on the K3.

Has anyone tried that combination on FF?

Yes, I use it with the K-1 a lot for birds, and suits me quite well.
The 1.4x TC does vignette, but it isn't much and generally I can crop to end up with a larger image than I would have had if I has shot in crop mode.

Cheers,
Terry

I have and it vignettes pretty badly. Let me see if I can find an example.
