Hi,

I know that this came up a bit ago and just by way of interest on ebay right now there is a 85mm F/1.9 for sale which has the red dot rather than then red diamond marker.

Pentax Super Takumar 85mm F1 9 Prime Lens M42 Screw Mount Clean 530 15 | eBay

The serial number is 3705715

Maybe the seller knows why it has this marking.

Cheers

There were are several versions of this lens. The Super version has the dot, and the Super-Multi-Coated version has the red diamond.

For more info on this lens check here:

I am fortunate to have both the Super and the S-M-C version. I acquired the Super version from a member here in the PF Marketplace. The S-M-C copy I bought from a local used dealer who had it very well discounted because it has a very tiny insect in it. I tried it out on site and it didn't appear to have any effect on image quality. LBA got the best of me, so I got it.

Which is part of the reason I keep an inexpensive M42 adapter in my camera bag
so I can experiment at any appropriate moment with a lens such as this Soviet MIR

{the other reason is that this is my emergency backup if my K-30 comes down with the aperture control malady}

mrs. monochrome is giving me the eye as it is. I can't imagine explaining the difference between this one and K85/1.8
