FA 100-300mm vs FA 80-320mm

Does anyone have both these or has used both and can say which is sharper? I owned the 100-300mm once and it was quite sharp. Which would you recommend

There is more than one 100-300. The silver 4.7-5.8 is considered superior to the 4.5-5.6, and also to the 80-320 I believe. But I've only ever used the silver one (which is indeed quite good for its class), so haven't done direct comparison.

By all the accounts I've read, the FA 100-300 / 4.5 (black) and the 80-320 are rather average consumer-grade zooms. I don't have either one, but I do have the 100-300 / 4.7 (silver), which is quite sharp, at least on APS-C. Mine is definitely a step up from my DA 55-300s. The biggest criticism of the 4.7 is the plastic build, but that does make it the lightest of the 300mm zooms. If they would put those optics in a modern WR tube, I'd be on the pre-order list.

I own the 80/320(silver, don't consider the black as there were issues) and ive found it quite good. From 80-200 AF works well but above that it can hunt around a bit.Used manually itll capture some very good images.

My brief encounter with the 80-320 (it was silver, but AFAIK the optically identical black version did not cause any added "issues") indicated that it was well below average in build, sharpness, high CA, low contrast and saturation... otherwise fine. I can't imagine that any FA tele-length zoom could perform at a lower level overall, but I don't know that. By virtue of its narrower zoom range, you would have to hope that the 100-300 cleared the low bar in comparison.

yes I'm referring to the non power zoom FA 100-300mm. I guess we can also throw in the FAJ 75-300mm

I have a FA 80-320 black. Day time use is ok from 80-250. Night time / low light?.... don't try it! adding hood seem to help a bit. plastic build.
see a sample image below. focus at the white C sculpture at around 250mm. I didn't use hood when take this photo.
