In the budget category, I got a K 300mm f4, and it is good and sharp on the K1, but it has some purple fringing wide open and doesn't have a tripod collar.

That said, it was under $200 and really suits the scale of the K1...

Yes, I've seen the K models for sale between $100 & $200, obviously a very appealing price if they are sharp enough to do large landscape prints (although that level of sharpness is necessary only in the mid-aperture range). Are they manual? Thanks for the reply - I've noticed that lens and wondered if it would possibly meet my needs, at least temporarily. I would think a tripod collar (I may have one that would work) could be added and the purple fringing fixed in post?

It is completely manual, though the focus action is nicely damped. It doesn't focus very closely, though for landscapes I doubt that would matter.

I've heard various things about fringe removal from folks who know what they're about, and I don't think it would be a problem stopped down a bit, but would likely want someone better qualified to weigh in...

It might make a decent intermediate step until you can afford something better, and you probably wouldn't lose much on resale...

I have one of the K 300/4 and there was a fellow in OZ a while back who was making tripod collars for them. It is a nifty device that does not affect operation of the aperture or focus ring. This was a few years back and I don't think he is making them anymore. The shape and balance of the lens is such that it is easily hand held. At the time, I wanted the tripod collar for use on a monopod when I was shooting high school sports for the local paper. 300mm is pretty handy for the infield of a baseball diamond or covers a tennis court quite well.
