My World Pentax Day picture

I've been sitting here for the past hour, wondering what lens I should take out
Last time the Jupiter 9 gave me a beautiful photo, this time I'm on fullframe and was wondering if I should take the Helios? Or the Industar? Or the Super Takumar 28mm?

Industar has no CA, but the edges are really soft even on APSC. So on FF, I would only take the Industar for special photos, not the kind where clinical precision and sharpness are needed. It can be great to set a mood, though, especially around sunset and just after sunset.
Helios is similar, but by f8-f14 it gets sharper. There is a lot of copy variation, though, so your copy might be better or worse.
I don't have a Takumar 28mm, but I enjoy that focal length for landscapes and similar.

50/1.2 is certainly overkill for landscapes imo.
Its also a bit on the heavy side and if you imagine that I can be on foot from 6am to 9pm for a whole week on photo trips, everything can get heavy.
The upside is that the f1.2 can give a great shallow DOF effect for isolation when necessary.

If purely for f8 and be there landscapes, I often find the 50/2 to suffice.

However, I like the 50/1.4 as the all rounder solution for both aspects of photographic usage (bokeh, DOF control, sharprness stopped down, portability)

All on FF.

M50/2

K50/1.2

At the least, no one stopped me when I used it there.

This is what I like about Japanese high vantage points from buildings.
Its pretty laid back.
Pay the fee, get a normal priced drink from the vending machine and just wait for the sunset.

Darn, I missed the input part....

But I'll post images anyway.....taken with my FA 50 1.7, which I bought for my *ist, because, you have to have a 50 , right?

50 really is telephoto on an APS-c camera.

I really don't give much thought to what I should have for a 50. I use it infrequently, and when I need it, the FA does just fine. It's just one of those things you can spend way too much time thinking about for very little apparent difference.

totally agree. after I see so many 50 sample here, they all good. before get a new lens, I better stop reading too much lens review, but see more of sample photos.

Depending on the light the Takumar 50mm f1.4 works just fine.

If you are going to be shooting at F8, doesn't the color rendition of the lens start to matter more than the overall sharpness or maximum aperture of the lens? I haven't compared 50s but having played with a Tak 35/3.5, I loved the colors that came out of the camera with minimal processing. So I have to wonder if a Tak 50/1.8 or 50/2 might do as well or better than a M/A/F lens?

My favorite Pentax 50mm for landscapes is the M50/1.4.

Compared to other 50mm/1.4 designs,
the flatter cemented join optimizes it for sharpness at infinity.
That's awesome to know. This is the only 50mm lens I own Do you have any landscape pictures you could share?

good point. It will be interesting to see if any 50mm lens god could help showing comparison images here.
