Nice work all the way around. I love that second image! You have cooler looking Pelicans than we do here on the west coast of the USA.

He's bustin a move for the camera

Oh and I should add...although a slow lens, for the price and reach it offers, I don't think there's a better deal. And although old, it can still attach to film bodies without issue...another reason I went for it before the DA even came out.

Image # 4, no matter how sharp, would NOT make a nice poster for the guest room.

Where were you standing to get this?

I'm curious -- what are you expecting to get with the 55-300 that you don't with the 80-320?

Here are a few of my 300mm shots with the 55-300:

Hi Expat, after reading your post im now undecided whether i should bother with the 55-300mm.Its just from what ive read it is a better lens to handle the resolution of the k20d.By the way that pelican was about to land on the stage area where they feed them daily.I was sitting on the step right next to the stage.
I should tell u these 3 shots were with the Sigma 17-70mm.The last 1 is with the 80-320mm.Now i have to think about the 55-300mm.thnx for reply.

I think you shouldn't bother with the 55-300 ... your 80-320 is doing a top job.
Even your 100-300 you have takes awesome images as well.
You might be better off saving your money ... as all the other shots you have shown me already have been excellent.

#2 in the first set looks good the others all look soft.

The Entrance is a great spot for snapping pelican shots do you live near there???

I would recommend upgrading to the 55-300 as the IQ is better than the 80-320.

If you are serious about your zoom photography for birds/animals and sports look at the Sigma 100-300 f/4.

Nice series of shots...

I'm very pleased with my 55-300, it's the best consumer tele available for Pentax without doubt. It struggles a little in low light but that's no different to any other zoom in its price bracket
