(field report) sunset hunting using kit lens

i know i should had bring my da 16-45 f/4 or any tele lens. but i don't have a tele lens, and i have several cokin filter which i can put in use if i choose da 18-55. Since the kit have 52 mm thread, which match perfectly with my cokin adapter.

and PentaxPoke in his thread about flying his k10d into the space, already warning us about the capability of our humble kit lens. DA 18-55 f/3.5-5.6.

several of my friend decide to go to the sea to catch the rabbit fish

the sunrise when we leaving the harbour

the dock in the island

the stage, the place we used to stand to catch the fish

the sun already high, time for the cokin to work

Nice shots but I wonder about the color. I'll probably get some flack for what I'm about to say but in my opinion sunset subjects are much better captured with a film camera loaded with Fuji Velvia 50 (or the original Velvia if anyone still has that in their freezer), even a 35mm camera. I routinely shoot these with a Nikon FM3a and a 28mm Nikkor f2.8 AIS lens. No flare or ghosting with this very sharp lens either if the sun happens to be directly in the frame.

Ok, so you have the cost of film purchase and processing (if you can find a decent E6 lab) plus scanning (I have my own Nikon scanner). But in my experience the color is superior to anything shot with digital. And no extensive PP in Photoshop.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I shoot the vast majority of my subjects with two K10D bodies and the three "pancake" lenses. But not sunset subjects.
