Tokina Cinema Prime lenses: Precursors to Pentax-D FA★ 25mm, 50mm and 85mm f/1.4?

You certainly remember that the Pentax D FA lens roadmap includes a 'Large Aperture Ultra Wide-Angle Single Focus Lens', a 'Large Aperture Standard Single Focus Lens' and a 'Large Aperture Medium Telephoto Single Focus Lens':

K-Mount D FA Lens Roadmap

It so happens that Tokina announced and displayed today at the IBC 2016 show three brand new full-frame cinema primes: 35mm, 50mm and 85mm T1.5 lenses, further promising 18mm and 25mm T1.5 for next year.

IBC 2016: Tokina jumps into the Cinema Prime race with 35mm, 50mm, 85mm T1.5 Lenses

Any and all entry-level full-frame cinema prime lenses are rehoused from photo lenses to lower costs: Canon Cinema EOS, Leica M 0.8, Mitakon, Samyang Cine and Xeen, Sigma Cine, SLR Magic, Tokina Cinema ATX, Zeiss Compact Prime CP.2 and more.

These three Tokina Cinema Prime lenses are presented as purpose-built for cinema, with specific optical formulas. Indeed, they have no equivalent within the portfolio of Tokina photo lenses.

Nevertheless, it's difficult to imagine how Tokina could:

1. design and launch five brand new lenses in a short period of time with their limited resources and
2. propose a competitive offer in the highly competitive (and more and more crowded) market of entry-level full-frame cinema prime lenses

if their lenses were dedicated to this market with no photo versions to share the development costs with.

Wouldn't it be logical for Tokina to design at least some of the corresponding optical formulas in partnership with Ricoh Imaging, the latter using them for their large aperture DFA prime lenses?

Nice title

I was so excited when I saw the Title. Now I am sad.

Good for Tokina though.

I think Tokina and Pentax are done. Also it is easier to develop cinema lenses because they have no internal AF. Development costs of speedy accurate and reliable AF are probably the biggest problem in modern photographic lenses.

I don't think that Tokina and Hoya/Pentax divorce was made on peacefull agreement...

What's this obsession with such huge lenses? I find the FA 31 annoyingly large/heavy!

I'd love to see this rumor come true.
Kenko-Tokina Co. is an independant and very capable optical japanese company.

Someone is putting up a lot of money on speculation that it will pay off.

Not the first time that has happened.

No cooperation of Ricoh with Tokina. And I hope all new DFA lenses will be pure Pentax made.

Your post title is so close to clickbait as makes no difference. You have no idea how many people are going to hit this post thinking they're getting exciting news only to find they are getting supposition and wishful thinking.

Well, I would love a high quality 25mm lens. I'm not sure Tokina and Ricoh will come to an agreement, though. It seems all those partnerships are a thing of the past.

I would realy want them to partner with Tokina again, more than Tamron to be honest.

I actually think it should be the task of the moderators to push all the endless supply of threads "I wish" and "I think they should" and "I want" and "I hope" into one single collective thread of silly christmas wishes with little to no relevancy to anyone. They are just polluting the rumors section here (and elsewhere).

Mistral75 has been well informed in the past so I am somewhat unsure if he is suggesting something with a real rumor base or if it is just wishful thinking.
