Sigma 150mm - 600mm vs Tamaron 150mm - 600mm

I am thinking of purchasing one of these lenses (if they are available in a Pentax mount) and would appreciate hearing your views and/or comments.

Michael

A lot of people would love to see these in a K-mount.

If you are sticking with K-mount, don't waste your time Michael. Neither is available in K-mount, and no indication that either is likely to be.

The current long options (apart from the Bigma, which you have) are DFA 150-450 or DA 560, each at a much higher price.

If you want a current model budget long option, you might be better to get the Tamron or Sigma in Canon or Nikon mount and buy a second-hand body to use it with.

If you go the canikon route wait for the Gen 2 version of the Tamron which will be WR and less expensive than the Sigma Sport. We can only hope that Tamron will make the Gen 2 in the K mount.

Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny? Ah, well, doesn't matter. Like the two lenses in question or K mount, these are all figments of our imagination.

No p/k mount. Thanks gang. That makes the decision so much easier..... have to stick with the Bigma. Boy my arms are tired from handholding ........😣 Thought I saw an opportunity for lighter glass.

Not really - the Tamron and Sigma weigh about the same as the Bigma.

And no use suggesting this 5.4kg behemoth either: SMC Pentax-FA* 250-600mm F5.6 ED [IF] Reviews - FA Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

If you want something lighter (about 900g) but affordable (<$C900), consider a F/FA*300 f4.5 (with your TC if need be). I have the FA* and it's really superb. Images take a lot of cropping. Easy to handhold.

I have the Tokina 400mm ATX Pro F5.6 which is super sharp and not bad weight wise. It is hand holdable I was just looking for the extra 100mm+ over the Bigma.

Makes sense Mick. I've got the Sigma 400 f5.6 tele macro, which is similar. I used to have a Sigma 170-500 that weighed around 1300 grams, but it was overtaken for image quality by the later 150-500 and 50-500, at the price of more glass and more weight.

I doubt we will see a new K-mount lens in the 500mm+ class that is significantly lighter than the Bigma.

I find myself using the FA*300 f4.5 and cropping more often than I use the 400 5.6 - mainly because of the relative weight and speed.
