Should I buy this Takumar for $40?

It is for my K10D. Would I need anything special to make it fit? Here are the specs of the lens provided by the seller...

QuoteQuote:
takumar-a zoom 1:3.5~4.5 28~80mm
(in blue writing) ft 15 8 5 4 3.5
(in green writing) m 5 2.5 1.7 1.3 1
MACRO 80 70 50 35 28
(at the bottom closest to the base of the camera) A 22 16 11 8 5.6 3.5

there is one more random number at the top of the lens its 5656500

Is this the lens?

https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/showproduct.php?product=234&cat=47

If so, read the user reviews and act accordingly.

I would imagine that it's a screwmount, so you'd need the screwmount adapter. Plus I believe that you'll have to change 1 or 2 settings.

I really can't advise you weather it's a decent lens without looking at it, and testing it.

given that it says

"(at the bottom closest to the base of the camera) A 22 16 11 8 5.6 3.5"

that sounds like a bayonet mount to me

It will fit on your camera and operate just fine, but the Takumar bayonet lenses are of lesser quality than the Pentax branded ones - the coatings are not as good, and the mechanicals are, let us say, less than optimal. Takumar screw mount lenses, on the other hand, are rather good indeed.

Thanks, never even knew the lens database existed in this forum. I think I will pass on this lens. Thought it was cheap and worth a place on my dusty shelf. But maybe not.

For $40?? Dang, I'd buy it just to use as a paperweight. Seriously, it's hard to go wrong for $40. How much did you spend for lunch this week?

I would expect that the lunch might prove to be the more satisfying use of the money. There are better lenses available in that price range. The "Dirt-Cheap Lens Club" thread for some ideas.

The lens is probably worth less than $40. I had one and took this picture with it.

LOL ... the Taste of Edmonton festival occurs yearly allowing us to sample food from various restaurants around this city. Needless to say I was full and topped off the lunch with frozen yogurt.

It does seem to have a strange way of rendering skin tones though.

If I needed that range, I'd look at one of the better AF efforts from Pentax, Tamron, Sigma.
