Also, the Canon EOS-5M is now "for real" ... I got an email from Beach Photo wanting to sell one to me for $1479.
Seems at tad pricey to me, but it will be fascinating to see how the market responds to these new products.
We may be getting to the point where Pentax can no longer ignore MILC.

Hopefully we will see some glass coming up for Pentax during photokina.
Seems that Sigma has forgotten us... no new ART for the K-mount.
Lately all new glas is a Sony-E or so.

Anyone with some news and information for our Pentaxmount?
Sigma just made their formal announcement of their 12-24 f/4 Art, 85mm f/1.8 Art, and 500mm f/4 Sports lenses and indeed, no K-mount support - just Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts.

Agreed. u4/3 has been making big steps - bigger than APS, I think. At some point I think APS will not have much room to operate. If you want "big" then go full frame. If you want "small" then go u4/3.

It will be interesting to see how the new sensor performs.

The price won't compete... at all.

I can feel the regular +pentaxisdoomed+ mood through all these "competitors" 's announcement replayed here.

Again, Ricoh aknowledges his business model is NOT the one of any environment timeout / throw-our-eyes-pik-your-bucks labels, and i believe we must thank them for this.

Imho, MILCs are both today's emblematic and schyzophrenetic energy uncare concerns, and over-priced gear oxymorons.

It seems with the D500 and this little sucka everyones cards are on the table. Now Pentax know what they are up against. The K-3 Mark III better be one smoking camera.

k3 new will be presented ad cp+ in spring 2017... If they will show some new lenses, i will be very happy. Especially if some will be for 645... For a little time, on ricoh site was revealed a 1.30 firmware for k1, with big news inside... But for now nothing is revealed.

That's the price with the 18-150mm, not bang4buck at all.Compare that with a K70 with 18-135 and 55-300plm for equivalent $$$$.

Canon has the latest AF system and is a good stills camera, its promoted as 5 axis stabilised but that's only in video which isn't 4K.The M & 2/3 variations were mediocre cameras, the 5 is a step up but still with a long way to go.

Based on specs, that is a f*cking monster.
121 cross type af points and up to 60fps full size 20mp raw
If the buffer is large enough it will leave Canikon top models in the dust.
EVF is also crazy with 120fps and 6ms response.
Thanks god that is not a Ricoh competitor.
20MP, on m43?

They care about the sensor, forced to a mount which has, sorry, never ever taken off and with associated cameras which, despite their interesting sensors, are nightmares to operate (if not completely buggy at least slow as hell).

And this is very unfortunate 'cos it would have been nice to have a real competition there.

Sigma really should start manufacturing more glass in K-mount. I nearly bought the 18-35 f/1.8 Art this summer but didn't because the 50-100 f/1.8 Art wasn't available in K-mount. I wanted to purchase both at the same time. Instead I picked up the D FA 100 f/2.8 Macro WR, multiple radio controlled flashes and other lighting accessories. There are more than a few Pentax shooters who would appreciate two f/1.8, high quality Sigma zoom lenses for our APSC cameras...

The difference isn't that big. Probably if they put the same effort in a few megapixels less could improve, but the m4/3 came a long way.

I was just curious if anyone has definitive information about the third party lens situation for Pentax. Is it a case of the 3rd party deciding not to produce in Pentax mount, or is it a case of Pentax denying 3rd party lens companies the rights (or whatever it is that Pentax retains wrt lenses). Anyone really know for sure?

Yes,Panasonic introduced 20mp in m4/3 with gX8, so Olympus had to counter that.Interestingly, Panos releases since then are 16mp.

Why not? It's the standard for 1-inch sensors and 4/3" sensors are obviously larger.

I have seen interview after interview where the 3rd party rep said "there aren't enough sales for K-mount versions". If it were a case of Pentax somehow trying to protect their intellectual property, I'd expect the 3rd parties to say so. I can't believe they are ALL lying to cover for Pentax (why would they?). While 3rd-parties might not pay to license the K-mount from Pentax, that doesn't stop them from reverse-engineering it. Besides being marketing suicide, Pentax trying to declare the K-mount exclusively theirs would be a shaky case, with all the millions of 3rd-party K-mount lenses already out there - I can't believe a significant number licensed the K-mount or asked for permission.

Zeiss has said they would do a batch of one of their ZK lenses if they could get 500 pre-orders - no one has managed to make that happen.

In a recent Samying thread, I think Adam put it rather succinctly:

There seems to be a clear trend regarding third-party K-mount support: cheaper consumer lenses are typically made available, whereas high-end niche lenses aren't. Must be a reason behind this
I resent the implication most Pentaxians are "cheap consumers". We prefer to be called "pennywise purchasers".
