I want a lens that has it's own metal case. Having that would almost be as good as sex.

I just learned from our webmaster that we need to have a backup version of every great glass we have. Luckily this seller has five similar lenses for sale!

-- calculating -- one for the car, one for the boat, one for no-holidays-in-two-years,... --

I should be able to afford some!

in looking at these, and I wish I had this much to spend, the starting bid for the 400 F2.8 plus the two rear converters is about right.

the 600 is way over priced. we had a forum member selling one for I think either $6500 or $5600 (I know the price was a 5 and a 6 but I forget the order now.

When you consider the size and need for a tripod, I am not sure that AF is really a benefit, but the matching rear converters for the 400, give you 600 F4 and 800 F5.6 and from the reports I remember at the time, the 400 +TC was really just as good as the 600 F4.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I recall correctly, the A1.4xL & A2xL rear converters were expressly designed for use with the A* 400mm f2.8 ED (IF) lens..I cannot remember if they were also designed to be optically correct when used with the A* 300mm f2.8 ED (IF), the A* 600mm f5.6 ED (IF), & the A* 1200mm f8 ED (IF) lenses..

As I recall other internet sales of this lens over the past several years this is indeed a fair price for this lens & the two converters..

dsw1117---It is a known scientific fact that after one purchases any Pentax lens that came factory standard with an aluminum carrying case the quality of one's sex life improves exponentially..This is due to the continuing flood of endorphins constantly being released into the new owners bloodstream as he strokes both the lens & the case, sighing mightily all the while..Spouses of the proud new owners of such lenses & cases are usually so ecstatic at this turn of events that they have been known to rescind any & all moratoriums that had previously been imposed upon their spouses regarding LBA, CBA, EBA, etc..According to several Wall Street analysts, this has resulted in a dramatic reduction in sales for all of the male sexual enhancing drugs..So much so that a secret task force has been hired by a cabal of the major drug manufacturers.. This force has been tasked with purchasing up the remaining world wide supply of Pentax lenses that came equipped with aluminum cases..So snatch up any aluminum-cased Pentax lens as quickly as possible before they disappear for good!!!

if he has that many, maybe I could get on for each of my AF bodies, K10D, *istD and PZ-1, then go after the 400 F2.8 for my KX and that would only leave my Ricoh XR-2s without a 20 pound lens.

Next on my list after that little buying spree would be to hire a team of servents with pack mules to haul the stuff around. Maybe there are some left over's available from the expeditions to Mt Everist

Would be nice if someone would buy those two lenses and then share pictures with the rest of us.

He/she could also establish a "Stinking Expensive Lens Club", SELC for short, and let us mortals visit there from time to time
