SMCP-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited - Comments

I just ordered the Pentax SMCP-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited and sure hope I didn't make a mistake. I've looked and looked at reviews, comments, about various primes in this focal length for about a week and a half, and decided this one might be the best bang for the buck. I'd really like to hear from those who have this lens with comments good or bad. I could always send it back and exchange it from another...

Thanks,

Brian "Morg"

It's my favorite lens (I also have the 21, 31, 35 macro, and 43), full stop.

It's my 2nd favorite lens. 77ltd + K20D has got to be one of the best combos from any manufacturer at any level.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with this lens.
I don't have one but have had my eye on it for a while now.
It's supposed to be one of the finest lenses ever made.
Superb build, top sharpness, colour, contrast and bokeh. Only a few comments of slow AF on this lens, but for portrait work, shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Have you checked out this forum's lens review database? This lens rates very highly there.

So far, the comments posted have made me feel like a "happy camper"! Can any of you guys direct me to some photos you've taken, or someone else with the 77mm?

Thanks for the feedback!

This is the next lens I am going to buy. My current FA 31mm limited spoiled me and I can't wait to get this one.

Good and reliable lens. Just hunting autofocus and sluggish AF in the low light. Optical quality is invincible.

Sometimes the nasty harsh edge bokeh could surface in the shots. That can be avoided though during composition

One of my very favourite lenses. Superb for people and for near focus work where you want to exploit the sharpness and shallow DOF. Dave

The 77 was my first limited and it ended up costing me a lot of money but frankly, I'm happy it did! Dave

77mm ltd. headshots and poses
no PP done on them but internet resize

ISO 800, f1.8, 1/30 handheld, twilight—that iz no joke

ISO 800, f1.8, 1/25 handheld, available window light—SR gives me emotions

no EXIF data on this? what gnomes! still no PP

Lens had a tad bit of backfocusing out of the box, but corrected on the K20D.
