Sample image of DA* 300 lens

Dear Pentax Users,
I'm planning to buy DA* 300 lens. I've obviously search for all available reviews/comments/sample shots. Finally, I have stumbled upon sample shots on the official PENTAX site... Gosh... I'm negatively surprised...

See it yourself (original link to pentax sample shots!):

Do you not like the quality of the lens, or just the picture itself?

Well, I think he is one of these people that believed original full size pics are the only absolute way to examine the image quality.

I do not see problems with the shot, however. Bokeh is ordinary and the subject solouette are not sharp but not that bad either. Just a group of kids there. As a sample pic.

I want to hear from you why you were negatively surprised. I echo what roentarre said. Maybe you can elaborate

Me too, I am very interested why this sample shot disappoints you.
What did you expect to see, that is not in the photo? Do you miss sharpness in the faces of the children? Do you miss rich colours in the background (they are there, I think).

Did you see the sharpness of the panel the children are holding?

So: what disappoints you here?

Well,

I urged Camilsky to replace the 5000 pixel wide IMG-tag by something more civil

So, now we can read the thread but he forgot to include the link to the full size image.

Here it is: http://www.pentaxslr.com/images/samples/lenses/300/high-rez/image2.jpg

I guess he complains about the panel not being perfectly sharp at 100%.

However, the image is 5120 pixels wide which is wider than a K20D can shoot (shot with new Pentax camera? ). So, this may mean nothing.

I can assure from personal evaluation that the DA*300 is able to make perfectly sharp shots at f/4 and f/5.6 -- even when pixel peeping at 100% on a K20D.

I may add that in image #3 linked by roy, there is blur due to shake which is quite visible at 100%. Not appropriate for a marketing site, indeed.

Yup! My only point here! PENTAX marketing guys were sloppy! You can afford being sloppy when you are seling newspapers on the street or something related... I'm very excited about this lens and can wait for it... Thanks for your feedback!

Agreed on that point. I should add that they chose an interesting picture to do the marketing for their new product. Even had it been very sharp...
... it would have made quite a surprising billboard!
