Pentax M 200 1:4 strange form on back lens

Hello,

I just bought a Pentax M 200 1:4 and everything was working good except when I was stopping down at 4.0. And then I discover this:

what is it? Fungus or worse? Please help.

Kind Regards.

Jome

Looks like separation of the lens elements?

Interesting. Tedril like form prompts to say fungus. Distribution around the edge of the rear doublet suggests separation. I would try to remove the doublet and have a closer look....

pics show the rear group just needs a lens spanner to unscrew it, the pics don't really tell me if that's possible to do without initial disassembly of the mount etc.
I would expect fungus to clean off ok. Separation is not fixable (realistically), it is possible that a dip of the cemented doublet in boiling water might remelt the balsamic cement and render it clear.

I've seen this before and I am almost sure it is cement degradation between two elements of a group.

Thank you for your answers,
Do you all mean that it is the "glue" between the lenses in the group? Any (easy) cure?
Boiling as suggested by Marcus isn't risky for the lenses (breack / limestone)?

WOW! Thanks for the links, I am not sure that the full operation is worth it (I am prone to Murphy's law) as I paid 70 $ for the lens.
It is still usable at 5.6 on APSC. Perhaps, I will create a "Frankenlens" if I can get another M 200 with a back lens group in good shape.
Thanks again.

I have also a SMC-A 70-210 1:4 that will do for f 4.0 needs. It is simply heavier than the M 200.
Again thanks a lot to all of you for identifying the illness of the lens.
Kind regards.
