Forget the lens, I'd like to know how it feels to walk into a camera store and see so much Pentax stuff... The best our camera store can do is to show me pictures of Pentax cameras...

I'd like to know how it feels to walk into a camera store.. I've never seen one. They don't exist in my neck of the US.

. As for the weight and size of the Sigma 10-20 vs Pentax 12-24, it felt and looked very significant. Perhaps a lens is like some people, it's not the actual weight that matters so much as how you carry it.
According to the photozone reviews of the f/3.5 and the variable ap variants, the variable has much sharper corners across the aperture range at 10mm (tested on nikon dx bodies).

If you can live with screwdrive and the loss of light on the long end, you might want to try that version. It is a bit lighter in weight and smaller too.

Since most chains have closed (like Calumet), I think of camera stores in two general categories:

a) The long room: Typical family-run business Iʻve seen in Asia, Europe, and North America. Way too much stuff crammed on glass shelves. The owner, his sister, or one their kids (jk) will be behind the counter. Once they get to know you, you can never admit you bought any camera gear at a big box store or online. Until they know you, you are a fly in the room, especially if a regular is in the store.

b) 900 square feet: Larger with a manager, assistant manager, and usually a student working part time. Most major cities seem to have at one to three of these. Almost always found downtown or a suburban mall. The bigger versions will have specialists.

Superstores, like B&H, are rare exceptions: Hereʻs a video if you want to imagine what it might feel like to walk into their 70,000 square feet:

Hey Glen! About that 20-40 Limited.... Pentax Black Friday specials not that far off.
I'll keep an eye out for them. It's a lens that is made for this camera or at least my hands.

Hey, I have walked into camera stores.
It's just that I never see any Pentax anywhere.
(Well, actually I did see a KR in one store when I was looking for my K5, and I did see a 10D in another store when I was still on the hunt for the K5. But I have never seen anything else Pentax - flash, lens, nothing.)

Here's another vote for the 20-40; I have one on my K-3II. I will not part with it. It was very good on the K-5 and is superb on the K-3II. Yes, the zoom ring is perfect!

For my purposes, if I could just have one, it would be the 20-40mm Limited.

If I could only have three lenses, it would be the 20-40mm Limited, the DA 10-17mm Fisheye, and the DFA 100mm Macro.

So here I am saying that the 15 is as wide as I'll ever need and then I try to capture this. I couldn't use Lightroom to straighten out the distortion because it got totally confused (understandably so). I couldn't to it manually because I had already backed up to the street to get the building to fit into the viewfinder. My trusty DA 15 met its match. I shall never refer to the 12-24 as overkill again.

On Photoshop, you can manually Edit->Transform->Distort to correct the distortion....but yes, every focal length has its purpose given the right place and time and subject matter.
