Unidentified Mark on Lens

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could help me identify a mark on one of my lenses?

(P.S. I know it's dusty)

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

It is difficult to say without knowing the history of the lens just what the mark is. Did this just "appear" overnight or is it how a recent purchase looked out of the box? It is also somewhat difficult to say from a straight-on view. My first impression is that the rear surface of the front element had a close encounter with something like this:

I'm not sure when the mark appeared, the lens has been in storage for quite some time.

If it wasn't there when you packed it, and no one has touched it since then, and now there's some marks inside the lens, definitely suggests that it's a fungus.

Luckily those lenses are stupidly cheap to replace - do a search for the Auto Sears 50/f2 on fleaBay and you can probably get the exact same thing (rebadged as a department store lens) for under $10 to $20.

Or you can use this as an excuse to buy the DA50 and gain a half a stop along with modern coatings and autofocus.
