Looking for an ultra wide angle for FF..

Hello guys im looking for an ultra wide ( under 20mm ) lens that will work along with K1.. any ideas?.. The thing is that I need it kind of light, I already have the D FA 24-70 but for some events after a while it turns kind of heavy, so thats why im not considering the 15-30mm.. So any ideas of a light, ultra wide, FF lens that could work for events??

PSD: i also have the 10-17mm that at 14mm+ works perfect with K1, but perhaps a lens that dont give that fisheye look would be great

I own a Zenitar 16mm, it's really reasonable for such a wide lens. Reasonably priced too, I'm surprised they aren't more popular. Shines at f8 or smaller aperture, but REALLY shines.

This is film, your K1 would have a higher resolution than this.

You have indeed put your finger on the biggest gap in Pentax's FF lineup. The DFA 15-30 is big, heavy, and expensive. The third party UW primes are also pretty hefty, despite being manual-focus only.

I am waiting to see what Pentax come up with in 2017. From the Roadmap, the "wide angle single focus lens" may be compact, but perhaps not wide enough for you. The "large aperture ultra-wide angle single focus lens" will probably be heavy. There may well be no Goldilocks UWA in the foreseeable future.

From the film-era, the FA 20mm may be a good option, if you can find one.

For the moment, I am making do with the glorious DA 15mm limited. It very nearly covers the new 1:1 crop mode on the K-1 (vignetting only in the extreme corners), provided you leave the hood retracted. I enjoy the square format anyway.

The F 17-28mm fisheye is light and really wide, so it might work for you if you don't mind de-fishing as needed. Distortion is significant at 17mm (where you get a 180-degree diagonal FoV) and much more mild at 28mm (where you get a 90-degree diagonal FoV).

You might also want to consider the FA 2omm.

One you didnt list is the Samyang 14mm. It is FF, low coma, decent aperture, very sharp, has auto-aperture in Pentax K and it is really affordable. Cons: cant take filters, manual focus only, distance scales might be misaligned and there can be QC problems, particularly with decentering. So, buying this lens from a reputable dealer with a warranty is a good idea.
Samyang 14mm is also sold under other names, like Vivitar, Walimex, Rokinon, Bower,.. sometimes the same shop has the different names at different prices, but the optics and features should be identical. Vivitar version might have a different rubber, though there was some debate over its optics (apparently there are multiple versions of 13mm and 14mm MF Vivitars)

I have the 15-30. Don't bother. Seriously.
I also have the Samyang 2.8/14. A miracle of a lens especially with Adobe lens profile to remove the mustache distortion.
The Sigma 8-16 and DA15 are good too but on crop.

I wanted the same thing.... I have the 10-17 as well..... settled for the Voigtlandr colour skopar 20/3.5.... its akin to the DA15 in it's properties... really small as well...which was a necessity for me.

There is also the new IRIX 15mm f/2.4. It's manual focus but auto aperture. It's pretty new on the market but seems very well constructed, quality build and very affordable.

If you can find one there is the Sigma 12-24 which is a full frame lens. I'm sure it is smaller than the 15-30.

ultra wide anle for K1

Hi,
I have the film era Pentax 15MM A which I am pleased with, a bit heavy and pricey if you can find one, but a wonderful field of view on FF. Next up is a Pentax (manual) 24MM which is a lot smaller and lighter. I would really like to find a Pentax
20MM lens to replace the one stolen from me some 20+ years ago. Happy hunting!

But it's big and heavy (for a manual prime), and suffers from severe flare. Certainly an option though.
