Great shots

I like the Shih Tzu Dog, whose name is Rocky I see due to the splendid sharpness... if he is watching the concert he is showing more interest than the humans

Splendid photos in a lovely place. That takes the Vivitar from a great macro lens, to a fantastic all-rounder.

After looking at that, Jay, I wonder if I will ever take mine off the camera again. I with you, it is a brilliant lens, macro and all-round.

I was going to try using the Sigma 105mm as a "walk about" a little over a week ago and found out it wouldn't focus as a tele and the aperture blades were apparently stuck wide open. It is currently in the shop being repaired. I'm looking forward to getting it back.

Due to the subject matter #11 is my favorite - all are exceedingly sharp and beautiful images. Can you guess how I spend a lof of my free time?

I carry that lens in my daily bag at all times, but I've never used it as a straight 105 - to great a potential for operator error - but now I shall!!

Jay Jay Walkabout

Oh man, you really get the best out of what ever glass in on the front of your camera.

This is the sharpest series of shots from a MF lens I have seen in a while. You are very good an manually focusing that vivi!

Too many good ones to comment on... but this one is my fave. Love the expression on the girl.

Did I mention you MF skills blow me away?

Thanks Gus, I've been able to have a lot of practice with manual focus from
using my M's, which I love to shoot.

With that series, I was able to sit there for a while, take my time with
composition, and really try to nail focus. To zero in on the girl on that last
shot actually took several tries, but I got lucky - she was gazing at the singer
and sitting very still for about 5 seconds, and I captured it.

Nailing focus like in some of those shots is very gratifying and about twice
as fun as doing it with AF. And truthfully, even with a perfect AF lens calibrated
to the body, it's never 100% reliable anyway - which makes me feel like if I
have the time to focus, I'd rather do it manually - it's the only way to be sure
I'll get the shot perfect.

While playing around in the yard today I was taking some test shots with
another Viv 105 that I'm selling for someone, and didn't really take a lot of time
to compose/focus (figured they were just test shots,) but a few were still kinda
good (most are cropped a bit) :

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

6)

7)

8)

8) (this is a crop - that bug was really, really small and I didn't even notice it until after)

Are these with your K20?

Please tell me they are with your K20d... If so that sensor is almost magic with that lens....

If they are with your K100d, then you need to take me to focus/exposure school, cause I dont get those kind of results from my k100 and vivi.

It almost looks like I am standing right beside you looking at the same thing you are shooting. The DR/exposure is spot on. Even at these resized for web shots.

Impressive

Yes, the K20D - can turn really good lenses into 'blow-me-away' glass.
My M 85 f/2 and a couple others all of a sudden showed how stunning they
can really be. Downside is that some lenses I thought were really good were
just kinda... good.

I've loaned my K100D to a guy, but I'll try the Viv on it again when I get it back
and maybe post some comparison shots.

Also, note that most of these are crops - something the K20D does amazingly
well - and sometimes cropping can re-frame a shot to make it pop more, bring
out the 3-D aspects of the image, etc. (almost no other PP, though, except
contrast in the tomato shots & sharpening on the bag.)
