I'm thinking along the same lines as Lowell. So we must be right. One additional thought: noise might be more obvious with one particular lens because it chronically underexposes. Or you use it to take images where noise is very ovbious.

Thanks dave, I think, Nothing like having company if we are both proven wrong

I did not consider exposure in terms of noise, my discussion is really based upon "correct exposure" but it is true, a lens that cronically under exposes, if you do nothing to add compensation will require pulling images out of the mud more often, and these will be noisier

seems like I'm not the only one who noticed this phenomena. although generally we tend to agree that the sensor would most likely contribute to noise, we have observed the differences of noises between images shot with different lenses.

all the mentioned theories regarding signals can or maybe very well be applied to lenses as well.

it could be that light transmission which gives lenses differences in exposure contributes to noise especially if one is underexposed.

but anyway, I do admit that we see such noise differences and not just a pigment of our imagination.
