promaster circular polarizers???

g'day all.... i'd like to purchase a reasonably priced 77mm cp...
has anyone had any experience with a promaster labeled cp??
i'm sure it's a rebadged hoya filter....
i'd sure like to buy a heliopan/bw.... but the price is too high for
me at this time...
i've read that tiffen is not the best, but not the worst either...
regards and thanks, dcm

I have a Promaster 55mm used on a lens with my K20 and it semms to work as it should and doesn't degrade image quality. I bought a cheap Targus IV filter a while back and quickly returned it since the pictures were blurry but no problems with the Promaster.

Promaster 77 mm CP.

I purchased one of these for my 12-24f/4 and feel that it has worked well. If memory
serves me correctly it retailed for around $195 USD But my local camera shop (where I purchased my K10d and the 12-24 lens) sold it to me around $120. I just gave them the old "come on buddy, help me out" and they dropped the price. Good Luck

Buy.com has a 77mm CP for $56.80 but there may be better quality ones at a higher price. It appears that Promaster also has a 77mm "digital" CP for over $175. I have no idea what a digital filter does that the less expensive one doesn't.

I only know that I've found my self buying only the Best Hoya Glass ...
There is much more difference made in total IQ by the filters than the lens themselves. I mean that the image degradation a mediocre filter could infer is major

FYI, I am 90% certain that the Promaster filters and Quantaray filters from Ritz camera are the same (just like Promaster/Quantaray flashes). The QRs are quite inexpensive. I couldn't compare my 72mm CP to another brand, but the Quantaray 72mm UV I bought was FAR better than the one I used to have on my Sigma 17-70. (I bought the "Digital Pro" variants of the Quantaray CP/UV)
