Well, for most rebrands we don't get a choice of buying the 'non-rebranded' in K-mount. And yeah, Pentax and Tamron (or Tokina, in the past) only collaborate on the lenses that market research shows will be financially sensible. The ultrazooms, and the high-end stuff. The middle is already well-represented with regular Pentax lineup. Basically, the stuff that Pentax would have to invest a lot to research, where it makes more sense to just collab.
But yeah, rebrands can be a mess. Sometimes they cost too much, other times they have odd left-overs like focus ring turning in wrong direction. Or they have different features between (re-)brands, like Quickshift, AF motor, Stabilizer, focus limiters.. its an odd kind of logic, probably because the negotiations for a rebrand are done by lawyers and marketing people; not by photographers.
