Just read this discussion -

Calculated focal length at MFD - Focus Breathing
and

The effective focal length at max zoom is suggested to be 169mm which is just above half way of maximum focal length claimed and is even lesser than 200mm.

Compare this with the older 55-300mm which does a much better job with 239mm. I wonder it this is due to internal focusing.
I would love to see the effect of the same on real life wildlife photos. Hope the effect of this is demonstrated well on its upcoming review on pentaxforums.

It's not bad at all. A little less reach, but the better AF and build quality makes up for it 100%.

If I have parted with the old 55-300 and have the new PM version. I haven't taken out on our normal mountain biking and skiing adventures yet, but I'm impressed with the build, how it feels and definitely the speed of the AF - not even in the same league as the old lens. Makes not a peep either. I don't lose sleep over focus breathing - on any of my lenses.
