An example of why the 70mm Limited doesn't suck...

Not that anyone has said it does! But the amount of detail this thing can pull out with a K20D is just astonishing.

Here's a 100% crop of a bee on a flower (from the Jardin des Plantes in Paris - great place if you've never been, BTW)

And for context, here's the whole image this was pulled from:

That makes the first image just 2.5% of the whole image area! Pretty amazing I think.

Like the FA77, this lens has incredible resolving power.

Beautiful. Not just the sharpness, but the color fidelity also. Nice job. Was that RAW conversion, or were you shooting in jpeg? If jpeg, what setting? (natural, bright, etc)

Patience may pay off - you may want the K30D instead anyway, or also, the K20D should be discounted after the new camera announcements.

Da 70

Hi all,

I used the 70mm to shoot a rugby game last spring for the year book. Here's a few from that day:

@ Tom: Great rugby shots, especially the second one! There's something about rugby that makes players contort their mouths into funny shapes!

@ jsherman999: I shot in RAW, converted in Aperture. If shooting JPEG i always shoot Natural. I've had it shoot Vivid inadvertantly and don't like the results - reds and greens get really overblown and contrast is too high. In fact I've seen reds on flowers and clothing get too saturated and blown out. So I avoid it.

Da 70

Neil, Talisman39,

Thanks guys. The 1st and 3rd shots were heavily cropped but still preserve a lot of detail. Rugby is a good sport to shoot as it is one of the few "contact" sports where you can actually see the players face clearly. The second shot, my favourite as well, is hardly cropped at all. I was on the near sideline as the play came towards me. Oh, bye-the-way, the kids weren't contorting their faces they were just ugly.

The DA 70 is my only auto focus lens and I think it was a good choice. I've had some good action shots with my K 200 2.5 but this is a hell of a lot easier to work with. In good light it snaps into focus very quickly on the K10. Great portrait lens as well. My next purchase will be either the DA* 200 or DA* 300 once I get the kids through university.

I haven't been following this, but is the K30D any more than rumours?

The reason I'm asking is exactly as you mention - price drops on current models. Thinking about an upgrade for my K100d......

Suro, those shots are amazing. Very well composed, and the colors match your model so well. She's quite pretty. You practically have my dream bag there with the lenses you've got. *sigh*
