definitely, just curious if it was a viable workaround for the infinity issue

You can correct AF at infinity with the Sigma calibration software*. I don't know what people are complaining about.

*Unless sigma have changed the software is some way that prevents this: if this is the case, sigma again continues to provoke my ire.

sorry, I mistook your comment to mean no adjustment at infinity was available. I'll see if there is a friendly Edmontonian who would lend me a dock. then find the error at 2-Infinity and correct in camera. then correct the rest in lens

I wonder if it would be worth trying. I really do like the idea of all those focal lengths at 1.8. I wouldn't think if it as a 31 replacement though, maybe a 16-50 replacement.

The sigma 18-35mm has a very small focal length range, it also does not support screwdrive operation which the 16-50 does which is a handy fall-back if the HSM motor fails. The FL range covered by the 16-50 will be more useful on APS-C, but bear in mind the sigma 18-35mm and Pentax/Tamron 16-50 f/2.8 are't full frame lenses. The sigma 18-35mm can be used in a pinch on the K-1, however its focal range becomes rather limited on full frame 35mm due to increasing vigetting at 32~22mm and complete fall off becomes apparent at 21~18mm.

The FA31 is superb on the K-1 should you choose to get one in the future.

my 16-50 turned screw drive a long time ago. it's replaceability is part of the incentive to sell.

you're right though the 31 isn't replaceable. forwards compatibility is also a bonus.

maybe I'll just sell everything and buy the new dfas lol

Mail me all of your lenses and, after 6-8 months, I will inform you of which ones are keepers and which ones are not using my highly exacting methodology of determination through calculating the precise results exactly.

Also, what are your photography types? Landscape? Portraits? Street? Walk around? Cat?

cat. mostly cat.

for the most part i shoot motorsports. then landscapes and candids on vacation. I'd like something that's good for double duty for indoor events and landscape (I do have a da15 as well I like it might time stuff).

I haven't really clicked with the 16-50, I can't really fault it though. the sigma I thought might be more interesting, but maybe I'm wrong about that

I would definitely keep the 31; that should be your normal prime on the body, assuming you aren't using a K-1. I was interested in the 18-35, though the size/weight turned me off and more significantly the reviews that mention focusing issues.

If you keep the 31, then the other lens should be one of the zooms, given that the 35 is pretty close to the 31 -- unless you have a strong need for a macro at that focal length.

I would probably keep the 16-50, more versatile, but it also really depends on your shooting style/subject matter. For example, the 35 would be the smallest & lighted of all those, if the size is the most significant factor to you.

well in that case you might be able to do without the 16-50mm lens as you already have a wide lens, and a mind controlling one at that.

I see all light sources as starbursts now. lol. sometimes I squint to make them more apparent

I think I'll list the 16-50 and the 35. if I find the sigma isn't agreeing with me I can sell it later

A thought: I have the DA 20-40 which I pair often with the DA* 50-135 and the DA 15. This is by no means a full frame prepared kit. For that I have the FA 31, F 50 1.7, DFA 100, DA* 200 etc. however on APSC the resulting iq and ease of use is stunning. So the 16-50 and 18-35 might be replaceable by the 20-40 - slower but also smaller and lighter.

First off, I would never part with my FA 31 Ltd. Then I would also keep the DA* 16-50 for the weather sealing. In full disclosure though, I have got to admit that I have neither owned nor shot the other two choices. So I've got to go with what I know.

The last lens I would ever buy would be the Sigma 18-35. Hey! Buy our lens for $800 and by the way you have to buy a lens calibration dock for an extra $60 and spend 2 hours fiddling with software that may or may not work. Oh and you must also be technically savvy as well and of course own a computer. I mean who doesn't own a computer now a days? Maybe........just maybe......some people just want to buy a lens, throw it on their camera and have it work right out the door. I know, that's just CRAZY talk
